Had some fun today. Chandler has been thinking about building his own camera system and he is considering the RF200-800. You might remember that I researched that lens a while back and decided to pass, not for any particular reason, the lens has great reviews. Well, fast forward to this morning, I took Chandler down to Competitive and we borrowed an RF200-800 and headed to Love Field. I shot the RF600/4, and Chandler shot the RF200-800, it was a very interesting side by side comparison.
The light was mid-morning so not a challenge there of the higher than average smallest aperture. Color and contrast was great, AF was snappy and coupled with the R5II it was typically sticky. We shot for a couple of hours and gave the lens a real workout. Looking at the images this evening I have to say that it is an impressive lens, particularly at $1899.00. Build quality is very good, solid feel, push me/pull you zoom is not my favorite mechanism, but Canon had to shave costs somewhere, the aperture is another of course, but the availability of acceptable high iso's help in that area. Sure is a lot easier to raise the RF200-800 to the sky when compared to my old EF800.

With all the interpolation that happens it would be pretty tough to accurately evaluate an image online. Accomplished shooters like RobAmy, Imagemaster and Stoness, all rave about the RF200-800, and they own every lens from the RF800 down. Like I’ve always said, they are all just hammers, use the right one for the job you are on. The key is recognizing the need and the correct tool. We thought highly enough of it to add one to the arsenal .

Ding! Ding! Ding! RWN wins the prize, they are exactly the same image............. I must have been distracted and posted the same shots.
Hopefully, it isn't an omen of things to come. If you go out shooting and forget the cards, don't blame me for distractions.
But of the 2 newest posted versions, the last one seems a bit more clear, sharper maybe... but hard to tell at that size so will wait to see which is from which. Either way, both pretty good and keepers for most people.
Happy New Years across the big pond Jan-Arie...Hope you're feeling better.

Eddie, excellent picture, and yes...They are.
.
You look like an ex president or higher up in the pix Eddie, now I'll need to dwell all night on that till I figure it out...But all in a good way now
.
And Happy New Years to all-
First sunrise of 2025. May you all have a happy and healthy 2025. The second picture is the Arlington National Cemetery with wreaths in front of the headstones.

Happy New Year Everyone! Great looking group Eddie Ray!!
Did you ever go camping as a kid and make scary faces by holding a flashlight under your chin or over your head? Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw the photo. (Is the customer always right?)
