Dan, I am 73 and made the realization a few years back that my FF 5DIV and 70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8 , 85 1.2, and 16-35 2.8 were getting heavy so have been slow migrating to the Olympus (now OM) system. I've had a pair of EM-1 II bodies with 12-40 and 40-150 2.8 Pro lenses attached for shooting events. These combos excel in all facets having IBIS, light weight, and being MFT effectively double the focal length. Tested against the 5DIV they meet or exceed in all situations but low light where the bigger sensor wins every time. Fast forward to Black Friday and the OM-1 went on sale for $1099 thanks to the Om-1 II on sale at $1899. I comfortably shot a Farm Implement Lighted Christmas Parade last weekend with one gloved handholding the Om-1 w/12-40 and a DJI Action 4 in the other gloved hand. You be the judge. ISO 6400 on the OM-1 still images in the beginning. My 5DIV and EM- II's are getting worried. 7 stops of IBIS!

Just viewed your video Mike! Cut myself on the sharpness of the images!!
Wonderful rendering of this body and lens. Also the price would me still keeping my Canon "stuff" while adding an economical quality body and lens, and IBIS, to my aresnal!
Thanks!

Not to start a political rant, but we've been way too concerned about pronouns instead of things that want to wipe us from the face of the earth. I heard one report today that there is a ship in the Atlantic that has been launching 50+ drones, some the size of a small bus. so that they can fly all over the NE corridor and look at whatever........ when asked, the FBI/FAA, and other entities just shrugged their shoulders and said, "We don't have a clue......" Truer words were never spoken! About time to get some people who do have a clue!...Show more →
Jim I could not AGREE with you more!
The NOTAM alert came and I called a "contact"......the FAA removed the alert upon the request of the Pentagon! SAY WHAT?
I did not realize that these drones were "the size of a suv" per the news media!
I am surrounded by farm land so if one is taken out..no harm no foul here. Have many "hunters" here that would love to notch there Winchester70 with hit!

Has our Commander in Chief degraded our Air Defense System to December 7th, 1941 capabilities since they cannot identify the source of SUV size drones.
Seriously, I remember launching our F-4's one day to intercept a wayward weather balloon that entered critical commercial airspace. If they can track a wayward weather balloon launched from Palestine, TX to the Gulf Coast...
It is VERY scary Ray! If a NOTAM alert was pulled, that is a cause of GREAT concern!!!

St. Joseph’s — a Catholic school from New South Wales, Australia (red jerseys) came to Temple to play the home team (grey jerseys). How cool for a high school from down under to make a trip to Texas for basketball. They are touring the US playing games for fun. I guess this is there summer. At the end of both the JV and Varsity games the players exchanged jerseys. Yes, they played both the USA and Australia national anthems prior to the game.
Thanks Eddie Ray!
Yes "Oz" is my favorite of Countries and their people my most loved next to the Italians!
Yes it is summer there..really late Spring...
Glad they are touring the "States"!
Great image brother!

Now the media is reporting that they, law enforcement and Defense Dept, cannot detect the frequency these drones are directed on! That is BS!!!
Get a "spectrum analyzer"!!!!! We used it on the job when I worked detecting anomolous signals.
Today they are very sophisticated and VERY cheap! I will buy one for them!!!!
The bs that these people think ....... We are "stupid" people and what we will believe, not believe, has gotten very old, very fast!!

Dan,Thanks for the kind words. I'm the guy back in the film days that ridiculed the idea of anyone needing or even God forbid using autofocus. Crow tastes pretty good in retrospect and gaining 7 stops of IBIS is another Godsend for this old duffer. I'll embrace all the goodies that make my life easier and my images and videos better. I'm just putting the finishing touches on this years Christmas video for a friend that goes all out decorating every year. I put it on Youtube last night and after reviewing it knew it still needed work. I'll get it up later today.
...Heh Mike I teased my instructor in a "photography class" about the coming of the digital age for cameras.
Let's say he didn't "appreciate" my comments!
shoot me a pm so I can see your work if you care to. No harm no foul!

Jeff , That's me...Flew mine 1 mile out to a rock in the ocean a while back...But it was day time dangit...
Maybe we are getting invaded...Us west coasters are pretty well armed tho-
This really cracks me up, like people talking about bigfoot really existing...
The technology we have now a days, cameras, videos cameras, drones, infrared, trail cameras.
I mean someone with a drone could go chase some of these drones and get some good videos or make it crash.
The RF lenses are just wonderful, but pairing them with the R5 II just takes the AF and crispness to a whole new level. I had the II set to "people" for subject, constant AF and tracking, in 200 frames there is only one where the focus is off, and that was because I accidentally pressed the shutter when I was repositioning the camera. Now I just need Canon to make good on their long standing promise of 100MP and my kit will be complete................. I can wait a little bit for that, I've done my part to boost Canon's bottom line this year.
eterans Day 2024 in Chandler Arizona. I was awarded the anual quilt of honor by my senior community.. Local sewing ladies make it up using about $500/600 dollars of material. I made up a small display in the foyer of our community center. The quest speaker was a active duty Army Staff Sgt. stationed in Nebraska as a r e cuiter. Sgt. Tavenner was the former Relief Commander at the Tomb of the Unkown Soldier. Sgt. Tavenner spoke and thanked the mens club (sponers) and Solera Community. He finished by saying that after listening t o your Mr. Palmer and others, I fell like ive walked among and with several giants.

Congratulations Harry! That $500/600 dollars of material is chump change compared to the labor hours the local sewing ladies labored with cutting, sewing, embroidery and quilting (even more if it was hand quilted). My wife quilts and has made many. She even quilts them on her sewing machine and that takes talent. That quilt is worth even more when your dedication to your country, service and family is added in. BTW, I have worked on the C-141A (engine mechanic) and the T-33 (aircraft mechanic). I did get a flight home in the C-124 and the loadmaster gave me a tour inside the wing during our flight. Heck of an aircraft.
You done good Sir! Congratulations Harry.
ps: I showed my wife your photos of your quilt and she was impressed!
