Two A-10s from the Maryland Air National Guard stopped by to say hello when we were photographing bald eagles yesterday at Conowingo. Lots of eagle Top Gun dog fights, most of which were pretty far away though, thank God for 50MP
I'm so loaded up with "Big Pharma" trying to knock this upper respiratory stuff out, I was a little worried about doing my shoot today, but I powered through it. This shoot was a little different for me, a client that I was shooting for last month asked me if I would consider photographing their daughter, who is expecting her first child. They have been interviewing photographers and just couldn't find one that they clicked with. I really enjoy doing that kind of stuff for nice people so I said sure. We were trying to pick the perfect day, and today was that, 67 degrees, winds light and variable. I met the couple down on Turtle Creek in Dallas this afternoon and we had a great time capturing them. We hit it off the moment they got out of the car, didn't hurt that , aside from being delightful people, they were both model level handsome and beautiful. We shot for a couple of hours and, as I walked them to their car Kait turned and looked at me.......................I saw a shot that I couldn't let go by.............see what I mean?
I know what you mean Jim. That 50 mm and the R5c are getting another workout this spring for another Senior photo session. Waiting to see which college she selects.
It was indeed Ray, so glad I bit the bullet on those two lenses, and I haven't even scratched the surface. Glad you like it Bud! I mounted the RF70-200/2.8 Z and the Rf85/1.2 for this shoot and they served me well.
I woke up in the middle of the night a few nights ago with a composition that I want to do at Perot Field. The runway, my favorite runway, has in runway lighting. What I envision is a dusk shoot with The Spirit of Alliance on the centerline at about a 10 degree angle toward the west, standing in front of it on the centerline is Ross Perot Jr.. The jet is subtly lit, Ross is lit with a 36" beauty dish from above and the right. I can see it clear as a bell. I haven't had time to call him to pitch it to him, but the shot is already done in my mind. Probably captured with the RF 70-200/2.8 Z. Ya feel me?
They were on display last month at Martin AP in Middle River.
Dan
Thank you Dan! No, I didn't see the news in your link. I saw the A-10 demo for the last time this year on Long Island. It was popping flares left and right. 2024 is the last year for the A-10 Demo team. I think we may still see A-10s flying at some airshows but not as demo. Anxiously waiting for the announcements from the airshow conference in Las Vegas so I will have some ideas of other performers' schedule besides the BA and TB. There is a fairly good chance I will do an A2A at Sun N Fun in Florida again in April, hopefully there will be an F-22 this time. After that i will be done with A2A, unless I hit the jackpot.

Don't get me goin' on "Big Pharma" Jim! My father was a Senior VP of an olde drug company here in the Mid Atlantic-Peoples Drug Co- (now CVS)He was a doctor of Pharmacy. He would NOT have allowed a pharmacy company to do what most do to their clients!
They are really screwing with me for my mail-order Rx's! I change to a new mail order Rx company in 1/1/2025 and my present Rx company is denying me all the meds I need until I switch.
Now..this is one natural beauty Jim! She sure is beautiful!
You didn't let Sheila see this did you? Just foolin' with ya!
Say "Heh" to my buddy please and wish him a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for me!

Maybe time to "get with it"!

Dan,
It was REAL hard to part with that kit, especially the 1DX. That camera has been a tank for me, and there is just something about the image quality from it that has set it apart in my mind from all other Canon's that I have owned. That being said, I am retiring at the end of the month and looking to travel, and the weight of all of that gear was just getting too much for my 70 year old back and shoulders. I can't deny that the R5 and those lenses was a pretty hefty investment, but I wanted a body which could give me the AF and FPS of the 1DX along with the addictive 50MP sensor of the 5DS R, but with 1/2 the calories. There is a pretty stiff learning curve I have to negotiate, and I have only taken a few images so far, but what I have seen so far has impressed me.
Once I get passed January and am able to get on the road, I would love to connect with you as you travel around and hit an airshow or 2 with you, now that I have the freedom to go when I want (with certain permissions) Maybe I can talk Jim into a workshop for senior tech-challenged gomers.

I am 77 1/2 "chas". Yes the 1Dx is a beast and the 70-200f2.8 connected makes it a "bazooka". I have tremors also. The weight gets my arms and hands really "rockin". Not gud!
Many places I shoot from takes a hike to get there. Labored breathing with shakiness...not good for a sharp, in focus image.
I have to make the move at some time soon. The members that post the wonderful tack sharp images from the new Canon mirrorless are great!
But I have been hung up on "hi mpx" bodies. More pixels, more info/detail..IMHO...That keeps me with the 5DSr's and 1Dx.
But the writing is on the wall for a move!
Happy to hear you will be retiring! I cant believe I worked for 40 years and 6 years in the military! Since I retired(2009) the years have flown by! Way to fast for me!
Plus my wife is not well and I have become a "caregiver" to supplement what little time I get to go out and about. Most photo ops for me are inbetween drives to the store or doctor appointments.
The lyrics of the song "Nothin' To Do But Today"..."Been on the road too long
Most of these changes should be past and gone
Clarify my position
Must be some kind of fool, I'm a photographer(real word is a musician and I was that also)....Already on my way
Goodbye, I can't stop to say
Just quietly slipped away
And lose myself, it's the only way..........."
I always go to MA2A 1st to see who posted what fantastic images appeared overnight!

Rhetorical post-no reply needed
Just received an "Alert" from Dulles ATC -TFR-P40-about "unidentified drone" violating the airspace around Camp David and Site Six...
Anyone have a "noise/flash supressor" for a M14A? or the Winchester 70? Both with scopes.
Bill you make one?
Also the Picatinny Aresnal in NJ is the R&D site for sniper weapons! Media and govt doesn't want us to know that but speculation from media is Iran is responsible for all the drones over NJ/NY. See NY Post article from today......

NOTAM....used to be "notice to airmen" then the FAA changed it to something else
Dan, I am 73 and made the realization a few years back that my FF 5DIV and 70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8 , 85 1.2, and 16-35 2.8 were getting heavy so have been slow migrating to the Olympus (now OM) system. I've had a pair of EM-1 II bodies with 12-40 and 40-150 2.8 Pro lenses attached for shooting events. These combos excel in all facets having IBIS, light weight, and being MFT effectively double the focal length. Tested against the 5DIV they meet or exceed in all situations but low light where the bigger sensor wins every time. Fast forward to Black Friday and the OM-1 went on sale for $1099 thanks to the Om-1 II on sale at $1899. I comfortably shot a Farm Implement Lighted Christmas Parade last weekend with one gloved handholding the Om-1 w/12-40 and a DJI Action 4 in the other gloved hand. You be the judge. ISO 6400 on the OM-1 still images in the beginning. My 5DIV and EM- II's are getting worried. 7 stops of IBIS!
Not to start a political rant, but we've been way too concerned about pronouns instead of things that want to wipe us from the face of the earth. I heard one report today that there is a ship in the Atlantic that has been launching 50+ drones, some the size of a small bus. so that they can fly all over the NE corridor and look at whatever........ when asked, the FBI/FAA, and other entities just shrugged their shoulders and said, "We don't have a clue......" Truer words were never spoken! About time to get some people who do have a clue!
On a lighter note, Sheila has been very attentive to all the small boxes that keep arriving on the doorstep. I've been researching and rigging the C400 and it's just about ready for prime time. Tomorrow at dawn, I'll be droning, shooting stills, and capturing a time lapse simultaneously., which is a first, and should be real interesting , cuz my head still belongs to the guy who left his camera and lens on a picnic bench last week................
Got pulled into to a really fun project this week. Seems the Perot family had a 1939 J3 Cub, purchased new from Piper Aircraft that year. This sounds like a "barn tale", but it's a real one. The aircraft has been discovered in a barn in the midwest with a few other derelict antique planes. All the FAA research has been done to verify that it is actually the airframe that the family owned. The aircraft is now on a truck, headed for my good friend Darin Hart's capable hands for a full restoration at American Legend Aircraft. We will be hopping in the 407 next week to meet it in Sulphur Springs and begin the restoration process. I'll be documenting the journey in still and video.I'm pumped, the thought of flying Cubs with Ross off the grass strip at the ranch on a beautiful afternoon has me smiling.

Has our Commander in Chief degraded our Air Defense System to December 7th, 1941 capabilities since they cannot identify the source of SUV size drones.
Seriously, I remember launching our F-4's one day to intercept a wayward weather balloon that entered critical commercial airspace. If they can track a wayward weather balloon launched from Palestine, TX to the Gulf Coast...

St. Joseph’s — a Catholic school from New South Wales, Australia (red jerseys) came to Temple to play the home team (grey jerseys). How cool for a high school from down under to make a trip to Texas for basketball. They are touring the US playing games for fun. I guess this is there summer. At the end of both the JV and Varsity games the players exchanged jerseys. Yes, they played both the USA and Australia national anthems prior to the game.
