Here's an interesting tifbit -- I had a 20D with the grip and I used the Really Right Stuff L bracket. The battery grip from the 20D works fine with the 40D but the RRS bracket wouldn't fit. Until I filed a bit off of it, that is.

Yes it is the simplest non-thing of all.

There are absolutely no aspects whatever to consider.

It is only when "thing" status is reached that complexities arise.

OS X doesn't read the RAW files natively with Preview. Photoshop CS3 doesn't seem to like them either. Of course it would probably help if I installed the software...

what is a faked stop? you mean it does not change voltage to the sensor, but uses some sort of EC for the inbeteeen stops?

I have only used a 20D - are these mid stops useful?

This is the issue related to in between ISO settings: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1019&thread=19721647

It would be nice to know if it is the case with the 40D because so many test/demo images were shot at possibly faked ISO settings.

The 40D is a larger body then the 20D. I was hoping it would fit too for just a short period of time, but after your experience I now know better. You can pre-order an L bracket from RRS for the 40D. I'm not messing with my L for the 20D, I have plans for that camera at MaxMax

I just read the manual and have a question that I'm hoping one of you lucky guys could answer

In AV mode Auto ISO, "The ISO speed will be set automatically within ISO 400-800 so that a shutter speed preventing camera shake will be set. If overexposure would result at ISO 400, a lower ISO speed, as low as ISO 100, will be set."

At what shutter speed does the brain in the camera decide is un-hand-holdable and it starts to raise the ISO? Does the minimum shutter speed coincide with the current focal length? For instance, a 28mm lens doesn't start to shift till below 1/50th and a 200mm lens doesn't shift till time drops below 1/300th? I really wish this was expandable to ISO 1600. Canon needs to fix this with a firmware update.

Does the 40D include the same AF Micro Adjust feature of the mkIII? Thank you.

NO. The D300 has the same microadjust as the D3 though.

I didn't get time for 40D tripod tests today. But here are 10 photos taken today at the Wedge in Orange County. What fun with this camera, I have so many shots just like these, untouched and just drug into my smugmug, no processing whatsoever here:[you can see full size just click on original-last 9 photos on this page-worth looking at] Exif there too---
*sorry i had to remove the link of full size photos as I am selling the surf shots now.
Heres a few processed ones.
http://netgarden.smugmug.com/gallery/3449524

The exif is viewed easily if you go up to top and choose 'Traditional' from the drop down window up at the right Styles..

My first impressions of an outing, with this 40D, and not having had a practice run, is that I am very pleased. I did have concerns about ISO and birding, with a little noise in the skys, but as you can see here, if you shoot at 320ISO instead of 400 and just move up the meter it negates the noisier backgrounds. These are untouched full pics. [don't look at my horizons, lol ]
I'll post more processed in Sports later.

Does anyone know if there is a dust collector inside 40D or where does the dust go after being shaked off?

I finally got my hands on the 40D today.

I really like the improved viewfinder! The LCD screen seems good too.
I couldn't get the live view to work though so didn't get to test that out.
The mirror slap has also been toned down nicely!

I'm seriously thinking of selling my 20D and upgrading.....

I believe the interior of the mirror chamber has a slightly sticky surface.

There is an adhesive like area that traps the dust below where it falls from the sensor.

Wonder how you would change that "sticky area" over time ...

Canon says you have to send it in to change the adhesive strips.

I have now new added a section on 100% crops of the high ISO shots comparison between the 20D and 40D and also added a new sample gallery to my 40D review. You can them out at the original review site.

Roland, thanks for the update. I deliberately didn't read your brief intro and had a look first to see which ones I found to be more noisy and was unpleasantly surprised. To me, it appears the 40D is not slightly but definitely noiser than the 20D, did you shoot these with NR on or off on the 40D? or what's your take on this?
