p.5 #2 · Rumours: D3 something/D200 upgrades and technologies
I hardly think those of you who are concerned about your DX lenses have any need to be worried about your lenses being obsolete. Canon has their full frame bodies, the 5D and 1Ds/DsMkII... but they still make their 1.6/1.3 frame bodies as well... so I'm sure that Nikon will have a FF D3X and a 1.5 D3H.... it's perfectly logical....so get a good night sleep and wait until we hear officially before you start FREAKING out man!!

Nikon will make an announcement on 8/23 1PM JST in Tokyo.
Two new DSLRs.

- 9 fps in FF mode, 11 fps in HSC mode
- HSC is done at 1.5 crop factor (meaning DX size)

D300
- DX format 12Mpixel CMOS (most likely same as D2X)
- 6 fps and boost to 8 fps with power grip (no HSC mode)
- ISO 200 - 3200 with LO (iso100 equiv), H1 (iso 6400)

well if the above is true it looks like Nikon are hoping to get back into the sports guy market in a big way, we may see a reduction of big white lense at sports venues around the globe.

Damn...I just bought a D200... I'm going to feel kind of crappy if they come out with an upgrade for it...especially if its the same body and a new sensor! :s
One thing I'm worried about is whether or not Nikon will introduce full-frame, and how it will affect all of us with our DX lenses. I would hate to be buying expensive equipment (DX lenses) that will be rendered useless in the near future...
Same here. I'm hoping for a D70s type of upgrade when most of it was in the firmware.

The D3 seems like an "H" series body. So will there be a D3X with higher resolution sensor as a D2Xs replacement? One would need a 300-600 on the D3 to get the reach of the 200-400 on the D2Xs.

I'm holding my breath ....drum roll......and I hope I'm using energizer to keep me going and going...alas, after a 2 years of intense waiting, Nikon actually unleashes a new Coolpix with an f2.8 wideangle lens ...
The Nikon rep has gone into hiding. She told me the moment she steps foot in a camera store, there's a shop sales rep saying ... "So I heard the D2x and D200 replacements are coming, what are the specs and when".

Come on guys - I doubt the D200 will take any worse photos after any new cameras are released than before. I've gotten used to Nikon releasing something that would have served me better right after I buy something new. Fine with me, as my next purchase will be that much better. Unless you stay at the bleeding edge of technology - an expensive proposition - enjoy what you have.
On the other hand, I'd love to see Nikon give us some more options on the upper end. Whether you need full frame or not, it would be nice to know the option is there. I can't see myself popping for a 1Ds-like camera any time soon, but something like a D200 with full frame would certainly peak my interest, particularly if it lived up to all the hype.
So I'll just wait and see which way they go. I guess I'm going to have to be real nice to the wife if something obtainable is released!

this must be the reason why my D2x started to make worse pictures today. It's just to remind me i need a new camera body .
oh well i'd probably drool so much over those new nikons, that the salesman forces me to buy it since he can't sell it to anybody else with my drool on it.
I have no idea what the real specs will look like, but i guess i will go for the D300. Then i will still drool over that D3 to buy it too eventually
hm and today i went to our local zoo, with my ancient D70 (my images where great i'll post a few later). And i noticed a lot of nikon shooters, but i was the onky one wih a D70, everybody else had the latest (D80 or D200). Same goes for canonshooters i saw: all 400D or 30D. What does this show? it shows that once a new camera is released, the older model isn't good anymore so with that knowledge, my complete kit will be obsolete pretty soon... But that's cool, i love to buy gear
"...on a Japanese web site recently makes mention of 51 Autofocus Points, 9fps Continous Shooting and a 3.0 inch TFT display with 920,000 pixels."
I can believe the 9fps, I can kind of accept that they might actually make that 51-point AF system but a 1MP display
I dont really subscribe to the 51pt AF since even canon is going in the other direction. The display is almost incredulous since that's something like 1024x900 resolution in a 3" screen... i haven't seen anything else that has that kind of resolution.

It would certainly provide enough resolution for critical live-view focusing for astrophotgraphy of extreme macro work.
