920K pixels is crazy. Perhaps they are multiplying by the number of colors or there is some typo. A ~230K 2.5" display is already ~270 ppi, and a 3" 920K display would be around 460 ppi. What human eye can resolve that, except at very close distances, i.e., using a loupe or magnifier VGA (480x640) would seem to be a more appropriate resolution (~270 ppi) and have 307K pixels, coincidentally (or not) 1/3 of the 920K.

I much prefer navigating through my 11 AF points to dealing with 1 series' 45. The Canons are still grouped much too close to the center for my liking.
p.6 #4 · Rumours: D3 something/D200 upgrades and technologies
i never understood the dense group of af-points all close around the center. the 11 af points spread across the images on my d2x make sense... to me that is. i bet there are a lot of reasons why i'm wrong and the other system is better, but i'm just happy with the arrangement of the AF-point in my camera

i bet there's people for whom it might be better (those crazy sports photographers, probably) , but i feel nikon hit the nail on the head with their current arrangment. only thing i would really change about the AF on the D2 bodies is to put an additional directional pad for the vertical controls like on the F6 motor drive. that would be ideal.

Every now and then I wish I had a few more focus points on my D200 further out from the center. So I put it on single focus instead of continuous, and then recompose. Seems to work fine, but then so did manual focus. (Alright, so I was a little younger with better eyesight when I was shooting manual focus.) Nonetheless I still find myself wishing for a little more...a little more focus points, lenses, cameras, cars, money...maybe I'm just greedy!
Whatever improvements Nikon chooses to release I see as only a good thing. I'm glad I don't own everything, as it gives me something to aim for. (Did I just say that??!!??) I mean, what would we have to wish for if we had everything already? Make some good or great cameras and lenses better and we all win in the long run.

it shows that once a new camera is released, the older model isn't good anymore so with that knowledge, my complete kit will be obsolete pretty soon... But that's cool, i love to buy gear
Heh, I too just went out with my D70 (that's all my cameras) and had a blast in the gloom playing with ISO800 and ISO1600. Apparently I shouldn't be able to make any details out but the pics look great after a dash of Noise Ninja. Amazes me every time. I intend to get me a D200s or D300 when Nikon gets round to it and am looking forward to having my socks blown off. BTW those specs allegedly from that Japanese site don't add up at all IMHO.

This may have been posted, but according to Thom. We will be getting a new sports camera this week with Full Frame capabilities and a High Speed DX crop.
So there will be Full-Frame D3 with 51 Af points with 15 cross points
and they(D3 and D300) both have LIVE-view with a possible contrast
based AF. In NIKON term FF might mean 1.1 factor FX-format.
D3 will have 12Mp NIKON made_CMOS (LBCAST?!) censor,
with 9 continuous shooting capabiity and 11 shootings with DX-cropping mode.
The possibly nice feature is you can set ISO 200~6,400, Lo1 = ISO100 or
Hi2 = ISO 256,000!! No mistyping(sp?)
I'm not sure how many MB output they produce in RAW mode,
it only says the new cameras have 12 mega pixcel censors.

We've seen that. My take is it still seems unlikely to me. The D3 will probably be the D3h. The D300 will probably be the D200s/x. Both will probably be DX.
Though I sure would like the high speed crop on the D200.

12mpx is perfect for both d300 and d2x. I dont see any reason for more mpx. We need to care more about lenses
Canon caught itself in it's hypermarketing of higher mpx when lenses could not be improved much. 22mpx really belongs at MF home. Even more reason for Canon users to complain about crappy lenses with 22mpx unless they use Zeiss and Leica lenses
Im saying if predictions are right
I'd applaude Nikon for brave decision to keep mpx "low" for canonists eyes. Dont let them fool us nikonians

I agree with tomasis, I think most people looking for 20+mpx are going to want to be looking MF. that seems like overkill in a DSLR, but that's just me. I've always thought that Canon produced products mainly for hype, why else would you pack that many mpx into a DSLR?? what size are those RAW files going to look like at that big of a sensor?
I'm really hoping for a DX D3h with a faster frame rate and around 6-8mpx. The low file size of my D2h is what makes it so fun. Keeping it at or under 10 for a PJ/Sports camera seems wise to me. Then I'll be hoping for a D3x later on (FF or DX) and hopefully drive the price of the D2x into my sights. That way I can pick up a D2x sometime, and a D3h sometime down the road as well. MMMM. Sounds almost too good to be true . This is why i love Nikon, when they release pro bodies, they are more than often something very special...not just another hyped up upgrade like the Red and Whites.

I guess most of the time you are right. But when used with the best lenses, the 1DsIII would make a marvelous studio and landscape camera. Remember that it would be significantly better than a MF camera in terms of useability and range of lenses and other accessories. As to whether any of Canon's wides are good enough for that sensor ...
p.6 #15 · Rumours: D3 something/D200 upgrades and technologies
I think that 20MP is approximately the limit of what you can do with a DSLR (resolving power) but it is a wonderful proposition for landscape and studio photographers... with good lenses (old primes) I get a nice 20MP pictures from my Coolscan with a lot of details...(scanning Velvia slides) so I would assume that such a FF sensor combined with good glass can deliver superb pictures... above that you have to go for a Mamiya, Pentax...
p.6 #17 · Rumours: D3 something/D200 upgrades and technologies
I suppose that makes sense. I'm not going to say that if somewhere in the future Nikon released a 20mpx camera, I wouldn't buy a lottery ticket and hope I could afford it. I'd certainly jump on the chance to shoot with a full range of beautiful Nikkors on a body like that. However, something like this is certainly out of my wallet's range for a great while, hence my affinity for calling Canon's releases hyped up. I just think Nikon has the right idea not to rush that sort of a beast. We've all seen what happens when Cameras are hyped and rushed. I'd rather Nikon takes their time so when a Pro buys their new body, the autofocus works .
This week is definetly keeping me on the edge of my seat. I won't be able to afford any of this new gear, nor do I need it at this time. But if they release some new Pro bodies, or even a D300 or D200x/s of some sorts...it's always nice to look. Something about the "rumors" this time around makes this Thursday seem a bit more credible than what we've had in the past...right?!
p.6 #18 · Rumours: D3 something/D200 upgrades and technologies
I'm all for Nikon releasing whatever they want -- A new D3 as mentioned would be happy -- because it will drive down the prices on a used D2x or D2Xs which is what I hope to get sometime in the next year. I am quite happy with what I have now, but I'd much rather have a D2x body to compliment my D2h, then I'd give the D70 to my fiance to use.

STOP THE DAMN RUMOR CRAP. PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD!
This is the same crap info listed over and over and over again.
There is no way they would give the H, THE SPORTS CAMERA the same focus engine as the prosumer camera. There is now way they can make a grip add more power...this isn't like the old film days. The limitations are by the CPU and shutter, not by the power of batteries. If they make the sports camera in a 35mm format, I think that would be a horrible decision as our 200mm 2.8 would go from a 300 2.8 back to a 200 which is NOT good. 1.5X is GOOD on the H.
