On another note Im still trying to understand why "Live View Mode" is needed on a DSLR? Any thoughts? How important would this be to you?
It's very useful, not so much live view on its own with the full scene like a poin t and shoot, but rather live view as it is on the Canon Mark III. You can zoom up to actual pixels for key focusing. Great for macros, etc. Combine it with the micro focus offset adjustment for lenses and it makes the III a very useful tool.

Live View Mode is of no importance to me. All I want from the improvement/replacement to my D200 is faster frame rate, faster/better focus, and reduced noise. (Not insignificant items, I know.) But while I want more in those areas, the camera is a dream in every other. And even in those, it's pretty good.

Im very open to new changes. Im just ignorant to how the live mode view would benifit the photographer as a whole. Im sure it will be a plus, at least I hope so.

Wow! The D300 is having the same AF system and lightning processor than the D3, that is pretty amazing! I'm jealous!

Nice, very nice! I'm somewhat surprised Nikon didn't go for full frame on the D300, but I suppose that is really pushing it. That is what the rumor mill was saying though. For those of us who desire the FX sensor but can't spring for the D3, well, I guess we'll just have to save our pennies a little longer. That, and maybe live with a 12 megapixel DX sensor. We'll be so deprived!
Actually I'm excited about the new offerings. Even the lens selection looks great. There are always more lenses we want, but what they are releasing sounds incredible. That 14-24 will probably work awesome on the DX sensor cameras as well, granting us a 21mm f/2.8. I could go for that.
Now if I can just convince my wife I actually need some of this stuff! Actually she patted me on the head and said "Keep dreaming, big guy." I guess I'll just have to work on that.

After hands on I'm more impressed with performance then specs. ISO 6400 is pretty damn clean. Dual CF card slots is great and the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED was a treat. DX crop mode for DX lenses to 5.1mp sorta blah.
