The EOS 30D will remain current and not be replaced by any new model as yet, as the debut of this latest miniacture to commemorate the success of the camera shows:
If you look at http://eflens.com/ website there's a new unnamed model sitting between 30D and the 5D. I'm guessing it's a 40D. One more day and we'll know for sure.

That's a presumption by that site based on that "so-called leak" of 40D at Canon HK site last month. As all previous such leaks turned out to be correct during official announcements, many are led to believe that the 40D is indeed the new EOS to be announced for PMA 2007. Trust me, it is not.

There's a thread over on DPR by a guy who spoke to some "higher ups" (?) at Canon (honest!) who told him unequivocally that no DSLR's would be released in the first 6 months of 2007.
Argh! You are killing me Joel I was thinking of upgrading to a 40D and if U r right, I'll've to wait for another 6 months then. I can hardly wait another day. Should have bought the 30D w/ the rebate
- Not exactly earth shattering news, but a UK store (theflashcenter.com) has sent out a flier announcing they will be showing a new professional Canon DSLR in their store on March 6th. This is after the "Focus on Imaging" UK trade show (25th-28th Feb) and just before PMA (March 8th-11th), so the timing is right. The only real surprise would be if Canon didn't announce a new professional DSLR before PMA...
Other current rumors are suggesting that Canon will be saying something on Thursday February 22nd at 5pm Tokyo time (8am London, 3am New York), so if that's true we won't have to wait much longer!
It's really amazing. We are getting closer and closer, but still we have nothing really. We have people saying there is coming something really big, MF. There are people talking abot a 1DMk3, there the ones talking about 1dMk3 and 1DsMk3, some are even talking about replacing any camera except the XTi AND there are these people who say we won't see anything.

My sarcasm detector is on the fritz, so if you were kidding, my apologies for the following: The poster I to whom I was referring is, in my opinion, going to be really "disappointed" if he is banking on no new DSLR's from Canon in the near future. To me, the signs point to new goodies.

Moving back sort of to the kind of original question (kind of) (mostly)... so do you think we'll see more glossy papers or more matte ones? Or maybe a little of both?
Expect to see a few more higher priced , niche papers. There's already Fine Art, Museum Etching, Premium Matte. Expect an upgrade or additional mgs' to these. Plus 3 more types in the range. Fine Art is my favourite here, 100% cotton.
Then there's the Super White. Probably two more in here, 130mgs and 190.
Plenty of room for the fun stuff too (you know, consumer oriented, stickers and such) and for the first time , CD labels from Canon on 'highly durable', thin paper.
