I know Canons making a mint, in fact most of them are. It's been a good season for DSLR's. Nikon had a great year, with the right products aimed at the right market. I just don't want to perpetuate a rumour on a forum unless I know it to be fact. (We are being studied remember. )
Nikon had a great year because they introduced the D200 to fill that gap in Canon's line that we've been mentioning for the last 2 years. Prior to the 5D (and even after, given its introductory price), there was the 20D at about $1300-1500 and then the 1D II at $4000-4500. All Nikon had to do was add a few bells and whistles to a basic mid-range camera and shoot low-center in that price spread. And they did!
I'd be happy to read some solid evidence that Canon was instructed to stop releasing new models that would bury the competition.
I don't think Canon was instructed to stop - I think Canon was/is working on a significant upgrade in technology, and I think that the technology was not ready in time. Which is why we have the 30D and 1D-IIn in their present form - minor upgrades.
It administers controlled doses of L-anine, the major addictive component in L addiction. It helps to take the craving away. There are several dosages available - the highest being 1200mm for hardened addicts.
DC, what do you mean "finally". I've always said I owned a D200.... and a 5D... and I also use an Oly E-330 for live macro shooting. Tools at my disposal.
Are you were inferring 'that I'm a Nikon user' because , what, I disagreed with your opinion on Nikon. Its the same on this board or the Nikon forum when people start talking about how Canon is "treading water" and have lost the plot or whatever. I get accused of being a Canon brand loyalist.
Yeah right. I'm the biggest techno tart you've ever know!

Unfortunatley the recidivism rate is 100% with a high percentage falling off the wagon within a month, even during treatment.
Once you get that particular monkey on your back, it never gets off.

If the treatment also involves blowing into one of those aboriginal horn things, I'm in. Do you guys drink dark beer warm or cold?

Serious sufferers are advised to get the white version
Indeed it is true that items were announced at the PhotoKina that were not available for quite a while. Could mean both 1D and 1dS successors might be unveiled, but one of the two only available at a later date, like 3rdQ.
Opposite to all expectations I can not believe the 1D is going first. There is no major event close enough for the sports pros needing a new machine. 1D for 3rdQ is well before the Oly games, but close enough, like impossible for the competition to answer. If the 1DS is going selectable frame size, i.e. killing the new 1D, than it is obvious, but then we will not hear about this one at this show.
No reason to wait with lenses. Get them all in line please. 12-24 (only L please), 100-400/4 (L or DO), 300/2.8Do, 500/4Do 600/4Do etc I don't care. Come on already ;D
Joel's quick photoshop work is not quite up to large corporate design standards. Canon needs to release a good current 1 series pic with the 1.2 as a starting point for these hard working forgers.
If 1Ds MkIII is not shown right now, I only have one explanation.
Something better/more expensive is coming and has to be introduced first -
if not, a high MP 1Ds can steal some thunder/potential buyers...
MF? Imagine a very high MP MF system with a few amazing lenses - they
need all the hype for it and an introduced earlier 1Ds could be a competition...
After the launch - not so much, 1Ds would be more seen as an option for
those who can't afford the new Super-Hyper MF Canon ONE
There are tons of people with money ready to be spent on the new 1Ds now.
Give them something better first, a long delay could work to Canon's advantage...
Someone lamented:
"The 45 point system is 9 years old!"
I replied: Yeah, and how about the use of a single lens reflex system? :-)
Yakim responded: Well, I don't think that will change at PMA.....
:-)
I was getting a laugh out of posts suggesting that something needed to be changed just because it is some number of months old, and I enjoyed the reply that came before my post. There are aspects of photography technology a that are quite old now but which still are quite useful - so changing just to change is not necessary.
On the other hand, I don't have a lot of sympathy for folks who complain when a new camera comes out "too soon," apparently with the presumption that they will have to buy it. They don't. In fact, for many people upgrading bodies perhaps every other cycle makes more sense - if the new bodies offer something that they need. (And, unfortunately for our finances, they have tended to recently...)
The only thing that comes back again and again, is that IF Canon really "only" changes the body and the Mp to 22 on the 1Ds, with no new lens mount or Full colour sensor what the ***** does take them so long ? I mean they are loosing a lot of salesif the 1Ds, cause nobody is byiung it anymore... so if they just do that minor upgrade, why wasn't ir ready at Photokina ?
