I agree. Pentax have answered the call with the K10D in the mid-low end. 'HOPEFULLY', Oly come out with their loooooong overdue E-1 replacement... and Nikon hit the D3h sometime before Peter Pan gets old. How many days before PMA now?

I know Canons making a mint, in fact most of them are. It's been a good season for DSLR's. Nikon had a great year, with the right products aimed at the right market. I just don't want to perpetuate a rumour on a forum unless I know it to be fact. (We are being studied remember. )
I'd be happy to read some solid evidence that Canon was instructed to stop releasing new models that would bury the competition.
For starter, I don't think we will be able to find this news of Canon was instructed to slow down (not the same as being told to stop introducing new models) being posted anywhere on the Net - I got this from my contacts based in Tokyo, who probably know much of the styles and system of how the Japanese conduct business. It was an insider thing that don't get published or made known to public.
The only thing to date that Canon has admitted to act accoding to Camera & Imaging Products Association's (CIPA) request - finally remember the grouping's official name, was the sharing of the Direct Print tech, which the industry had named it as "Pictbridge" back in 2003. Here's the official website of CIPA: http://www.cipa.jp/english/index.html

On the plus side, a whole new generation of Canonites have been introduced to the wonders of pookas and we have all benefited by having our knowledge base on Saturn expanded.
I dunno, is there a problem with 45 pt AF? They could do better, after all, processing power increased quite a bit since the 45 pt focus of the EOS 1V.

How about EF 16-50mm f/2.8L IS USM and EF 50-200mm f/2.8L IS USM?
I imagine they would be great - if you had a 30D. A 16-50mm would be useless for me, I only use my 16-35mm for under 24mm anyway. The 24-70mm is a much more useful lens for my needs (weddings/walkaround).
A 12-24mm on the other hand opens up the wide angle to 12mm, while taking away something I will likely never use - 24-35mm (given I would use the 24-70mm).
12-24 / 24-70 / 70-200 - it certainly has a ring to it. Add a 200-400 f/4 L IS and I think you have a new dream team.

I hear we will have exactly that...
Geoff, I'm considering starting an Australian chapter of PPMARTA (that's Pre-PMA Rumour Threads Anonymous).
My fiance has already advised me that checking the thread compulsively every twenty minutes I am awake and at home for the past week is getting a little extreme (and tedious for her). I think I am probably the worst here, so I am happy to lead us off.
"Hi, my name is Antony, and I am a gearhead".
(From a plus side, my fiance certainly recognises that getting the new 1Ds is a priority for me - I don't expect any arguments about the cost).

Hummmm..........
They could make all 45 of them cross type and focus till f/8 like the central AF point. Now, that could be a nice upgrade.....
However, Canon never improved a given AF system. They simply introduced a new system. Recent example is the switch from 7 to 9 AF points.
But wait, isn't the 5D AF system an improvement to the 20D (addition of 6 invisible AF points)?

Hi, my name is Geoff, and I'm a addicted to EOSfun in all its forms - Lusting after L series lenses I don't really need, the latest EOS cameras and talking / dreaming about gear like a new 1Ds Mark III....
Yep - I'm in
BTW - How do you wait a whole 20 minutes in between checkiing this thread?

You have to try REALLY hard. (I'm not so good at it). Seriously, my fiance just wants the PMA over already "and I don't care what you buy, I am just sick and tired of you doing this all night!".
I just pray the 1Ds is announced at PMA - the wedding will probably be called off if I tell her she has a few more months of this

It appears to me that nikon is doing quite well at the moment. I was at the zoo the other day, and inbetween trying to avoid getting run over by baby strollers and trying to determine if the smell was the zoo or the mob in diapers, I noticed lots of nikon dslr's, a lot more than canon. In fact I've never seen so many out with the general public before. Not one had a hood on it though.
They are doing well as a company and as a producer of consumer cameras. That's nice, but I'm not an investor in Nikon. They are not staying competitive with professional photography equipment, which is not good even if you shoot Canon.
The hood thing drives me nuts, especially when a person is clearly making an effort to make good images.
I see nikt has finally outed himself as a Nikon shooter.

From the sound of it, this would result in mass hara-kiri. Or at least selling every last widget of Canon gear and going Nikon or Olympus or some such.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is this "hood thing" with Nikonians?
A lot of ex-P&S shooters jump the dSLR bandwagon, and end up with the D40. Part of that crowd is clueless up to the point that they don't even understand the concept of a lens hood, and thus not use it.
But the truth is that this isn't a Nikon-exlusive phenomenon at all, so you have to read this in a tongue-in-cheek way
