Check this out (all three images):

It is most credible prediction I've ever seen in that area.

Thats pretty cool. But what I like more (now that my old d60 is worthless) is a table showing the used values going downhill. Looking forward to all the "leaping off the Canon bus" Lemmings putting their stuff on the B&S.

Could you please tell us why Canon HAS TO change the lens mount? Yesterday, you were complaining about 12 or more fps, today you're complaining about obsolete lens mount and inadequate sensor design.

Make up your mind already.

I can't believe Canon could keep a MF camera a secret for the years it would take to create a whole new system.

It's probably going to be a FF 12MP 1D with better performance than the current 1DMk2N, and a 22MP version with better features than the current 1DsMk3. I just hope they both come out this month.

Me too.
But I will be surprised if we don't have a "Wow, never saw that coming" reaction to one Canon announcement this year.

"This year" as in PMA or "this year" as in before 2008 starts? :-)

I was told by a Canon rep not to buy a new flash right now at a convention last month, so a new flash is coming with the new cameras I would say?

I have been saying this for about a year now. They really let us all down on this one. All of us that shoot advertising work - where MP is very important!!!!

Let's all hope for the best- and very soon.

Wait until the next Photokina in Sept 2008, and not sooner than that for your dream 22MP 1Ds.

No rumors,previews-nothing. I hope they'll release something, but usually they let us know some of the stuff they releasing. At this point,I won't be shocked if they'll just release some new PS cameras and printers with no no DSLR cameras.

Medium format digital costs $12K - $30K+ currently, I believe...That's real money, current manufacturers are making a profit hand assembling these cameras in almost a boutique environment - see the Luminous Landscape Videos' Phase One visits, where they show a very small assembly room with only a few work benches...Wouldn't a company already making it's own 35mm format digital sensors and bodies/lenses be in a pretty good position to expand into the larger format? Wouldn't additonal development costs to create a new product line be much more affordable than for an entirely new start-up company?

If conventional wisdom barks out that all those white super-telephotos seen in photog gallery shots at sporting events are a fantastic sales tool, would it be a good thing for Canon to point to studio and landscape world class pros using Canon MF equipment? You may only be looking to buy an entry-level camera, but you've heard Annie Leibovitz uses Canon, and you want to buy the company the pros use...

I think they are going MF this year. They won't devalue their 35mm line by just coming out with a new line of high resolution lenses and ever-more pixels jambed on a sensor. It's going to be something new, probably announced at PMA, but not available until later this year, they will want to hype it's exclusivity first...They made a 50 f/1.0 for bragging rights, they will do something similar again (granted, that's not a direct example for my argument as it really was a trick lens that didn't stay in the catalogue for long - but they spent a lot for something they knew wouldn't earn back it's development costs).

Yes I heard a new flash. I would guess a new radio controlled flash system. The current infrared system is too "mid market" for the one series.

I don't know if there's enough market in medium format to support an additional player. What Canon could easily do is jump into the sensor side of MF as that is where they have the expertise and capability. It would be the least expensive way for Canon to expand into the MF market without risking too much capital.

I was referring to the whole year.
There's just so much going on in video, and Sony moving to DSLR. Time to pull something fancy "out of the hat" it seems to me.

Can't think about it too much. I'm trying to will a 1Ds at PMA. Hummmmmmmm

We will see OLED on the new 1 series, right? After dropping a couple billion on this tech, they should be able to come up with some 3" screens.

Oh, I don't think Canon would worry about gaining enough market share.

I expect the last thing Canon wants to do is make sensors for other people's glass.

Hi Joel,

Sarcastic answer to your very good question:

"Well its nine years old, what else do you need to know?"

I wonder if automotive forums kvetch about a 4 wheeled base just its old also?

Let us hope that the Canon's all move to wireless flash and a new macro setup to replace the MT-24EX is announced, MT-34 EX would be logical. They should also have replacements for the 220EX and 380 EX. A 230 EX with ETTL-II support and say a 15% boost in GN in the same size package as the 220 EX would be a nice little carry every flash unit, and a significant improvement on the built in flash.

You're mixing up SED with OLED here

Canon had to, well, buy out Toshiba because of patent licence issues. That's the SED technology: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface-conduction_electron-emitter_display

(And that may just have been the Birth of a New Brand Photokina brouhaha that never materialised. Remember that Canon Photokina announcement talking about the birth of a new brand?)

It's entirely different technology compared to OLED, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oled

Oh, and since I mentioned a little something about a patent spat ... That might also be a reason for Canon not to put the M30 and M80 on the US market. If there is some silly (possibly software based) patent granted in the US patent system, then Canon could decide to skip the US market for this particular product...

Think of SED as CRT but with a per-pixel electon gun, rather than one huge gun for the whole screen. No need for collimating magnets etc. Best of plasma/lcd and crt features.

I hope it comes off, but this legal dispute has really screwed things up.
