I know, that's why I put the smiley in the end.

1D Mk II N seems to be capable of doing both.

It'll be darn annoying if those swine at Canon bring out a high-rez, high speed camera!
Just imagine being deprived of carrying one fast one and one slow one!
I think we should protest- or carry a brick instead on one side to balance things up.

I just hope Canon has listened and gives us a GPS interface this time. Such a simple thing to do. Nikon and even Ricoh can do it.

YES! YES! A THOUSAND TIMES YES!

No more of this ghetto stuff with syncing a GPS with files in a computer. I want it a cable connection to toss it right into my EXIF.

I have fantasies that involve such a connection, a Custom Brackets Mini, and a nice little GPS.

I'm going to take a wild guess and estimate that thing cost somewhere in the range of 2 hundy k.

Sure it's nice, but can it be hand held?

I'd be weary using that lens with an eletric charge being fired off every shot

Put a 2x on that sucker and you could read beer labels on the other end of the trailer park.

Once you bolt it to the earth's crust, only shifts in the plates can blur your photos.

If it weren't big and white, nobody would notice it..

do you strap a saddle to that thing? Geez, its huge!

WHat does one DO with a 256kg lens? Do paparazzi shots of brad pitt from 1/4 mile away?

Such monsters are not unheard of. At an optics conference earlier this year I saw a report on a one-off zoom lens built for optical missile tracking:
750 - 3800 mm, f4 - f/14, >100 lpm resolution at all focal lengths.

and yes, it too weighed about 300 lbs. and cost something near $100K

But diffraction limited resolution at all apertures and focal lengths was pretty darned impressive nonetheless...

Of course - in orbit, you'd hardly notice... and it would blend in with your nice NASA spacesuit! You wouldn't even need IS when you clamped it to the Shuttle's robotic arm ... Heck, even on the Moon the darn thing would weigh in at over 90 lbs! What a monster!

It looks like there might be a 480ex coming (and yes I know it says 430ex farther down the page, but it's still funny).
