As a latecomer to this thread, and a fascinating read it is, is this the longest in FM's history? And if not, can anyone recall the one which had more pages? I seem to remember one a couple of years back about 85 f1.2 v 85 f1.8 which went on for quite a while. I'm the kind of person who devours the Guinness Book of Records!

BTW, if anyeone would like to PM me links to 'critical' posts within this thread (or the page number and brief description), I can occasionally update the Original Post with a little 'Index' at the bottom.

Um, I embarrassed to say I don't think we really have anything here worth referencing or keeping after today.
Well This thread has to be one that has broken the most posts in a single day thread record or something. It has averaged 13,965 views a day for 10 days but im sure todays has been the most.
Yes, the "Leica DMR Bible" has a lot more replies but averages 25.8 a day, This thread has an average of 73 and counting....

Yes, I realized it afterwards, as I was mostly thinking of the 'New Product Master Threads' when I typed it. However, now that I think of it, the images from you-know-where probably deserve such a link.
And actually, the thread will need to be left open until Photokina for the 'real' announcement.
Also, this thread will be a reference for seeing who had good info and who was misinformed and who was fraudulently presenting hoaxes as if they were real.
I took it all for speculation.. dont really care who was right or wrong. I certainly wont be wasting my time to go back and check. Thats just me though...
so assuming there is some truth about the 400D,70-400/4IS. 50/1.2 and 200/fast .. how many think there is still a chance of a new 1 series or other body?
would they really have let all that leak, but save the big boy toy for tomorrow?
Around 1,600 suppliers from 50 countries - 160,000 visitors from 140 countries expected in Cologne - Apple and CeWe Color to participate for the first time - Many companies from the CE, IT and telecommunications industries to enlarge their trade fair presentations - First photokina in the restructured Cologne exhibition center

The 400D is a consumer announcement, and Canon wants to get them into the stores for Christmas - so they announce it now. The lenses may go along for the ride, although the 50 1.2 is not exactly a consumer lens.
Sales of the "big boy toys" are not tied as tightly to Christmas, and throwing those morsels out to the public can be reserved for Photokina or even PMA in March.
1. 30D may be the last camera in this line. They may either finally introduce the 3D or push the 5D into the same price bracket as Nikon D200.
2. More likely they’ll just cripple the 400D in firmware (like no RAW). There is not much they have to cripple for the 30D to continue selling (better build, controls, ISO boost to 3200, bigger size, higher flash sync speed just to name the few)
After wading through all the lovely conjecture, I'm left with one thought - what the world really needs is a lot more optical designers. I’ll bet those guys and gals can name their price these days. Lots of good ideas to be realized, methinks...
