I suggested a week or two ago that the 1.6 crop bodies would merge, and got only one response, a negative one. Nevertheless, I agree that the X0D line and DRebel line will be the first to merge....
Hopefully, they don't merge into a the small, plastic body of the XT. It's not horrible, but I much prefer the magnesium alloy and size of the 30D. The 10D was even better.
That 50 f/1.2 might interesting to play with.....$1200 street, and it's doable.
Rumor is (this is the rumor thread) that it'll retail at $1600. At least in the beginning.
the nice thing about the 50 1.2 picture, and i know it could be a fake, is that it looks like it is internal focus, which could mean quicker autofocus. The hood mount is for a screw, directly on the filter ring, unlike the 85L design.
I'll have to visit Sigma Benelux soon, I could go to Canon Europe too, but I'm afraid that when I walk in the door and say "Give me details on the new to be announced products, NOW!", they won't be very helpful...if I get in at all

Is it 24/08/06 anywhere in the World yet ?
The embargo will be lifted effective 11:00am GMT on 24/08/06 - which corresponded with 7am in New York City (Canon USA), 1pm in Europe (Canon Europe), 6pm in Tokyo (Canon Inc), 7pm in China/Hong Kong and 9pm in Australia.

That would make me more interested in the lens.
I disagree - it looks very much like a front focusing system to me. Which will mean relatively slow AF.

well, we'll know soon enough, if it's real. But the clasps to connect the hood are not on the main part of the barrel, as they would be for an extending focus system. If it extended, that would mean the hood would extend as well -- which they wouldn't do.
On a 85L, the clasps for the hood are not on the part of the lens that extends while focusing.

No, one of the two to go is a great 21/2.8L . Canon has still not made a move to fill this gap...
Hear, hear. Canon could make a $1200 to 1500 21 f/2.8 or f/3.5 with corner to corner sharpness that would give Zeiss a run for the money (I wouldn't expect them to exceed them at that price). It is so needed by interior and architecture photographers.

Thank you Sony, Oly and others for pushing Canon into finally including the dust buster. 50 1.2 looks sweet too, but it messes the whole trinity
There has been no announcement yet. The chinese rumor could be real or it could be a hacked fake onto the Canon China web site. Time will tell.

* Electronic manual focusing
* Photodo rating 4.7

I'm still holding out hope on a 35/40D to be announced soon. I've never had money burning a hole in my pocket this close to a release announcement! I will be tempted by a 400D because of the dust cleaner more so than the MP increase (unless DR/Noise improved as well), but I really NEED a "fuller sized" (ala my Elan 7e) viewfinder, the second command dial would be a lifesaver, and the spot metering would be darling... Maybe if nothing else the 30D will drop in price.
Some questions for you 30D owners today, if you don't mind...
One thing I've noticed about my XT is that it is terribly noisy above ISO400, sometimes even producting banding in "light" areas. Is the noise response of the 30D significantly better? I've owned the camera for about a year and a half and can say that I've only now strated to "really" use it (shooting in RAW, etc). Maybe I'm just not used to seeing the images w/o all the JPEG processing the camera does? Should I send this to Canon to have a look see?
