I think many of all but one of your arguments is convincing. The 65 macro is an entirely different lens than the 60. It doesn't have autofocus and more importantly, it cannot focus at infinity. Not even close actually. The farthest it can focus (i.e. minimum magnification) is to a 1:1 magnification, which I would suspect is the maximum magnification for the 60 EF-S.

I am also wondering. wondering if the camera-designers of canon are only able to improve sensors. who really needs 22mp ? and who on the other side would like better dr, af, ergonomics and dust protection. since these are the things i care - and everybody i talk to, thinks the same - the development of canon cameras over the last years has been very disappointing.
I would like 22mp. Shooting portaits, I control the light, so I can live with a shorter dynamic range and even dust. But I'd like to be able to retire my 4x5 for 30x40 and 40x50 group shots.
10,1 Mpix CMOS senzor

Rebel 370D, 10.1 MP, 7fps, 3" display, 21 point AutoFocus...
If true, this should pretty much address the Nikon D80 and D200

IF *THIS* is the "base-model" that replaces the current 350D, I cannot imagine the higher end camera bodies... A new 1DsIII should be something like a 1DnMkII (for the speed) + a 20> MPixel FF sensor, at least (!!!).
And what would happen to the recently released 30D? Hmmm, I'm a little skeptical about a 370D being so powerful because it will blow away the 30D and eat some 5D potential buyers attracted by the 13Mpixel sensor resolution (between 10 and 13Mpixels the gap isn't that huge afterall for most of the users).
My HUMBLE opinion is that a 350D's replacement could use the same 8Mpixel sensor but with improved overall performances and a bigger rear LCD screen, just like the 20D->30D evolving path seems to indicate.
Above is a rational scenario, but IF the 370D has those specs, well, we should see also a new 40D (10Mpixel, faster AF, more performance oriented), a new 5DMkII (same 13Mpixel FF sensor but higher FPS, more buffer depth, faster AF) and the king-of-the-hill 1DsMkIII sporting a sleeker look (smaller than the actual 1D series), a new BIG FF "well-over-twenty" Mpixel sensor, ultra fast AF and, probably, a crop mode for action photography (may be 8fps @ 12Mpixels). Not to mention the need for new high-quality wides capable of extrapolating every subtle&little detail the new FF 1DsMkIII sensor captures at every shot! But this is pure sci-fi, in my opinion.

You are spreading nonsense. Please stop. On the three pages of that thread only one post, the most recent post, is in 2006, and that is in April.
I agree, if this were the next XT, it would need to be made of tissue paper to not totally kick the 30D's butt. Assuming the IQ was at least as good as the XT, and it was at the XT price point, I'd buy one in an instant.
... yes thread ist about new s2 but mentions new 1ds on this page ... i didn't make it up.... just posted what's written there...and haven't clamed that's true.
"19th August: News from a dealer event in the UK where the 'informed comment' reckoned on a 370D, a 1Ds Mark 'something' and a change of some kind to the 5D (cosmetic, hardware or "a pricing change to make it more competitive against the Nikon D200" )"
