This probably looks like a scam or a joke (especially as I am a new member), but I assure you it is not. I am a Canadian living in Osaka, Japan and know of a Canon 1200mm F5.6L USM lens that is for sale.
The lens is not mine but I am able to broker the sale, as well as handle English/Japanese interpretation needs. Although I could arrange for shipping of the lens I would suggest the purchaser come to Japan to inspect and pick it up.
I have not yet seen the lens but am told that it is in excellent condition. Of course detailed photos can be provided if anyone has further interest. Asking price is US$75,000 at current exchange rates.
I agree, this is going to be a very interesting thread.
Considering the price of the lens, if someone is interested and satisfied with photos, I don't think they would have a problem flying to Japan for inspection and pick up. The cost of a ticket is small compared to the value of the item.
I need a sherpa to help me carry that lens and can't afford one at this point . Like Charles said, this is the first time this lens is offered for sale here. Good luck with your sale!
Is this really what they sell for I cannot believe that lenses even exist that would be this pricy! You better take some priceless pics to make this worthwhile

Ian -- try posting it at Rob Galbraith's forums too, there are some more "heavy hitter" pros there.
Thank you, I'll post it over there tomorrow. (It's midnight here in Osaka right now.)

I do think a few photos would be of help, to at least reassure any prospective buyer that you do have access to the item. --c
Definitely. Unfortunately as it is late Friday night here I might not be able to get photos until Monday morning. Working on it though.
