That is an insane price point, if the FujiRumors report is correct — the same list price for the XE5 as the current price for the XT5 body: $1699. ($1899 with the 23mm pancake lens.)
If memory serves, I think that I recall the XE models once selling for about half that price.
I’ve been a fan of the XE line for user-specific purposes for a long time, but it is hard to imagine many will pay that much for this model. It also removes the attraction of the lower price point compared ot options from other brands.
Olympus is doing the same with the OM 1 II and the OM 3: price in realist the same, because the specs are largely the same, but the bodies are different.
In Fuji’s case, I’d never buy an XT5 but I’m interested in the XE line.

If the pricing info is correct, I'd get over the immotional appeal of the rangefinder design in favor of the X-T5's weather resistance. Or if price/budget issues prevailed I'd go with the Fuji X-Half But I have a Nikon Zf so I'm not likely to buy either the X-T5 nor E5. And I have a GR III as well, so no X-Half either.
I shot an XE (the first Fujifilm I tried, a dozen years ago) and the used and loved a XPro for years. I switched to the XT5 a couple of years ago and I don’t miss my XPro at all.

$1699 .... wow ... I was not expecting that. But, ok fine, I will buy it. On Fuji Rumors, I see a lot of people are upset about the price (which is to be expected when the XE4 debuted at $850 ) but personally I tend to look through the lens of pricing in economy theory terms .... such as "people's willingness to pay". Now I get the "half" in the X-half though ...
This pricing strategy suggests to me that Fuji has evolved the XE line from "entry" status to serve as a legit alternative to the fixed X100 series in (semi) form and function.
My guess is the XE4 used market is going to move up into the $1300+ range over the next year. Maybe even higher if the XE5 supply falls short of the demand. I was gonna sell my XE4 to fund the XE5, but gonna wait and see how this plays out.
If you extrapolate what is known about the tariff impact on the X-Half, you can surmise that the X-E5 was supposed to be about $1399 which is right in line with what we figured from the start, and where this line should realistically sit in the Fuji ecosystem.
Paying $1700 for a non weather sealed camera is asinine, though.
If Nikon wakes up and makes a rangefinder version of the Zf, this segment is cooked.

Ahh yes that makes total sense ... X-Half was supposed to be $699 in US, then plus $150 tariffs ... so $150 x 2 = $300 + $1399 = $1,699.
One thing I love about my XE4 is I don't have to think twice about taking a $900 (current used market value) with me as an EDC..... but $1700 price tag is now in that range of "Hmmm do I want to risk messing it up?" if I'm doing something a little more risky.
Based on specs the camera is clearly overpriced compared to competition.
But, Fuji had hard time keeping cameras in stock lately. If the camera cells at $1699, Fuji makes more profit. If it will not sell, they can have bunch of sales by thanksgiving/Xmas to move stock. Seems sensible to me.

I would give anything for a Nikon Zs...a rangefinder/smaller version of the Zf would be an instant buy for me.

Wow. I expected a relatively high price of $1400. But $1600 pushes it over the top for me as an expensive toy. I’m probably now a pass.
If it were actually the functional equivalent of the X100vi or if it had moved more towards the “super-XE” XPro-surrogate concept (e.g., full manual controls like those cameras, etc.) then the $1699 price (if we given them a break for tariffs) might have made some arguable sense.
But in terms of placement in the line-up, it makes no logical sense for this camera to cost the same as the XT5. That’s a shame, since the XE concept has always been a good one for certain categories of use. Now the only plus it might offer compared to the XT5 is the somewhat smaller form factor, which doesn’t amount to much against the minuses in that comparison.
Fujifilm didn’t ask me —surprise! — but if they had I would have urged them to offer something more along the lines of a rangefinder-style EVF-only model with full manual controls like the XT5 and call in the XE-Pro or some such thing if they were going to shoot for such a high price point.

“Unfortunate” is the word that comes to my mind. A fully weather-sealed XE-Pro at this price point would have made a whole lot more sense. A high quality toy with film sim dial not so much; although it did infer the sim dial is “customizable” which depending on how it’s implemented might be a hidden surprise feature.
For me, the appeal is in the size combined with the resolution. When I want a smaller kit for street, I currently have a choice of my M11, XE-4 and Pen F. Sometimes, I combine two of those (e.g. M11 with wide lens and the Pen F with a 90-mm equivalent lens). The XE-5 seems like a perfect middle solution. I can sell the XE-4. With Fuji’s shortages, even used prices stay pretty high.
Now, I’m going to be back in Europe when pre-orders start, so see what prices and availability are over there.
Looks like a great camera for 1399 max. Glad this feature set isn't making me GAS buy it. Still have my X-E4 for $850.
I'll be honest, I've been a Fuji/Leica shooter for a while. Buying the ZF has completely changed my view. Manual controls, awesome files, great MF support, vast lens choices. What I've been craving for Fuji has already happened with the ZF.
Honestly, this release is now feeling like a way to market and monetize (use up) older sensor tech as an X100vi with interchangeable lens--?? The upside is this has me thinking an XTrans 6 announcement for later this year is now likelier. I'd bet on a revised XH3/3s first, followed by possibly an XT6, but we won't see anything until Q1 or Q2 of 2026. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see an XE-Pro anytime soon (probably never), so now sadly accepting that we got what we're gonna get in this form factor in this XE5... About all I can say positive is at least it has IBIS...

I couldn’t get used to the Zf and replaced it with the Z6III. Both setups are great but larger and heavier than the Fuji XE kit.
