Put your bets in now...will it remain a spartan, no frills IBIS-less body...or will it get some of that patented Fuji design bloat?

I got an XE-1 in 2013; an XE-2S in 2017. Still have 'em, along with the two rather good Fuji lenses--14/2.8, 23/1.4. I wanted a small camera that was Leica M size but not Leica M price. Shot many thousands of exposures with them. In order to have "small", I suffered with the glacial shutter lag and completely unreliable auto focus. If the new one is actually improved in these areas, I'll consider it.

It hopefully has ibis. This will make the body a little bigger, but then possibly also allow for the larger battery and maybe even dual cards slots or a CFx slot, either/both would be nice. If it does at least have ibis, I am a likely buyer regardless of whether it has the 26mp or 40mp xtrans.

Based on Fuji's recent update pattern, the most logical upgrades would be the addition of the 40MP sensor and IBIS. The camera might be just a little wider and heavier than the X-E4, but likely not by much. The battery will probably stay the same, along with most other features, though hopefully we will see an upgraded EVF with slightly better resolution and magnification.

Seems very likely to have the 40mp/IBIS/W126 battery same as X-T50 and X100VI. Is the XE typically cheaper than the XT-_0 cameras? Seems to be a pretty crowded price point for Fuji, without allowing for tariffs.

The X-E4 came out at (adjusted for inflation) at $1030. It's always been a value line.

So you figure the new one will be $1600? .

Depends on if they factor in tariffs I guess. I'd think $1299ish.

If it has ibis and the 40mp sensor with really good evf, then it becomes a quasi hybrid replacement for the XE4 and XPro 3, and the price could be $1400.

Yes, and with a rear dial clickable dial. Call it the XE-Pro5 and merge the lines.

Given the history of the XE line I would bet on, in order of somewhat decreasing likelihood:

Updated functionality in areas like AF.

40 MP sensor

IBIS

Larger battery as in T-5, etc.

I will be absolutely shocked if it does not have the 40MP sensor. And that's all I need to upgrade from the XE4, which I LOVE, especially the shutter clunk.

But, I've been shocked before.

I've tried several Fuji cameras over the years, but the only one I really connected with was the X-E4. Mostly because it was so simple, compact, and had interchangeable lenses. It's actually the one camera I regret selling, so I'm definitely interested to see what the X-E5 will bring when it comes out. For now, I still have a few X-mount lenses but no body to mount them on.

Did Fuji ever un-break the EXIF for voigts?

Nope, and neither of them has responded to this yet!

I think that the XE line is usually under-rated. While it lacks some features of models higher up in the line-up, it has a lot to offer for many photoraphers.

My first Fujifilm was the XE1, and it was the camera (along with a couple of lenses) that convinced me that the system was great for certain aspects of my photography. My wife currently uses the XE4 as her “small system” (she also has a Canon FF system), and I’m impressed with the camera.

For most users, the small size and excellent image quality trump the loss of some control features. The XE models make great travel cameras for those who want access to interchangeable lenses. (The XE with the 27mm f/2.8i is about the same size/weight as the X100vi.) It makes a fine streeet photography camera for those of us who prefer to work with smaller, less conspicuous gear.

I bought the XE-4 used on a whim when I was last in NY and added a Voigtlander lens for a 28mm-equivalent street setup. Liked it, but back in Europe, I mostly used my Leica M. Now I’m back in NYC for a bit and brought my Pen f. In short, I don’t really know where the Fuji fits but I do find it a nice mix of size and quality. So, an XE-5 does intrigue me. But then, so does a Pen f II.

There’s something liberating about shooting with a small system that doesn’t cost a fortune (and that I can use with lenses longer than 50mm, which I can’t realistically with the Leica).

I’m cautiously optimistic on this camera. IBIS in a small camera with decent controls, decent AF, and EVF is a good combo, if they do it. I can live without the 40mp sensor on this one, but I wouldn’t turn it down.

I don't think a Pen f II will ever get released. Seems like OMDS is just trying to get as much juice squeezed out as possible for the lineup they have.

With the X-M5 where does the XE-5 even fit anymore? There is severe overlap with those 2 cameras.
