Price ? In theory w/o the expensive rangefinder, could be a cheaper M mount mirrorless, but I am being silly this is Leica it will not be cheaper. I suspect an EVF M will not retain value any better than my never ending apple upgrades. So it is a disposable expensive compared to something like my MP or M4 that retain a lot of value.
If it is "disposable" there is no need for construction quality for the ages, perhaps no brass, just aluminum. Probably made by robots- perhaps German robots, but still robots.
The proposed 64mb seems "cheap" compared to the 256 in my M11P unless they are doing two card slots
It looses one of the things I like about the M11P, yes the rangefinder, but it is also the rangefinder + EVF (visaflex) I can focus well with the later outdoors even in low light and then use the rangefinder to see objects coming into the patch with a 135 mm (like float planes) a mirrorless does not give out of field view-
They could do a M11D variant and have only the EVF as setting it ups, no back screen if that would make it smaller and lighter and unless they are going to do a tilt screen loosing the back LCD isn't that big a deal.
It could be speedier than the M11P, better buffer, etc.... I bet not, the glacial boot up speed...
It would make an excellent backup camera for a M11P and substitute for things like doing macro and it would break the 135 mm limit- a 250-300 mm small lens ? or 12-14 mm, both without external finders
what the world needs is a < 5K$ mirrorless M mount not going to happen at least from Leica
Is it better than adapting to sony, nikon etc... not clear that it is. I imagine the M mount is long off patent so there is likely no issue to making a M mount mirrorless by sony nikon.... would leica survive that competition, not so sure. Would Nikon Sony do this, maybe not, not enough units to sell for them. Maybe fuji or Cosina could be hungry enough ?
Even so I expect I'll buy one whatever its limits so to have a M11P and a M(evf) and use whatever the best camera for the circumstance at hand
Agree with above, except this might the first Leica M body I have passed on ever since the M9. Their price fiasco a few months ago turned me off BIG TIME.
I wonder if Leica will ever take a hint that a MF Hasselblad Lidar AF, well made camera is cheaper than a Manual Focus M and Hasselblad has just reduced their price on the X2DII coming out in 2 days time?

100% True, but look at the number of posts on this thread vs on the X2Dii thread and the timeframe over which the posts were made. Much more interest in the Leica. Regardless, the Leica and Hasselblad are niche products with limited production. Interest and limited production allows for higher prices. I might purchase the X2Dii, but no interest in this Leica.

I am expecting that the ISO dial will be moved or deleted. POssibly replaced with just a button and expanded rear dial functionality. I manage my ISo that way on my M11 anyway. I find the existing ISO dial to be too awkward to use.

Just having fun. This is the M11-D body (without the ISO dial) and the lens mount moved upwards a bit.

Keep in mind this is mainly a Leica Forum with "some" other brands and cameras mentioned. On the other hand if you go over to gerDPI, mainly a medium Format forum, then lots of comments about Hasselblad with some interest in Leica and one minor mention of a Leica EVF camera which is supported by one guy most of the time.
My problem is that I don’t like EVF for manual focusing, either. Whether it’s an EVF or a rangefinder, when the FoV gets narrow, I struggle with achieving fast enough for my liking.
I will be interested in this body. Love the M form factor, but I'm less and less of a rangefinder fan personally, though I see the merit and enjoyment out of it.
We're in a revision timeline for a lot of bodies right now, so not expecting major image related improvements, but I'd be curious to see what potential gains could be had.
Hearing October for the announcement still. If I had to guess, likely a new lens (more likely, new model of an existing focal length) might sneak in there too.

But we’ll see.
If the implementation is similar (i.e. should be even better, by now) to the Leica CL with MF ... the option for auto zoom when you manually adjust focus worked well (iirc). You could retain the EVF at 1X or have it be 5X or 10X without having to fiddle to punch in the view for more critical focus.
Personally, I don't care for zebras or crayons as focusing aids. My pref is ground glass that "pops" the focus plane. Granted, not going to be ground glass, but the CL wasn't too shabby ... again, iirc.

For me, the Canon and esp. the Nikon implementation works best for critical focusing, but they’re still pretty slow. I too would prefer ground glass or something similar from my old film days, but when I now look back at those negatives, the focusing results wouldn’t hold up in a high resolution environment like a 60MP Leica.
