Let’s give the person willing to pluck down $4900 on a camera a little bit of credit in that they know what shooting 28mm FF is like and they are happy with that. So much lecturing on why not to buy this camera…it’s starting to become a joke.
Again I ask why so much interest in this thread when they have zero interest in the camera. And it’s not just continuous posting…but it’s continuous telling everyone why this camera is not for them…and just for a very small niche of photographers. That LP keeps on skipping…

My M11 has that smaller raws feature, and I've never used it. But again, it's a thing that will be important to some folks and not others. To me, it's yet another setting that adds to the mental overhead, something I'll forget to change and regret it.
FWIW the compressed files from this sensor are more like 100MB.
I'm using my A7RV at 26MP for general shooting (family-kids, travel, moving subjects), best thing with 35GM I switch to APS-C mode and has same 26MP resolution 50mm f2. This is the best upgrade from A7RIV, my computer has an I7 processor with 32GB RAM, good VGA, and processing 60MP RAWs takes time and cause lagging in LR. It's perfectly fine with few landscape shots, but when you collect, process 100-400 shots (which is not extremely high number) it's a huge difference. I hope they add later this option with firmware update.

Not sure if your comment is aimed at me. I merely post to share my emotional desire for this camera, despite knowing that rationally I don't need it. Had the same with the Q series (have a Q2 Monochrom that I plan to sell) and the Fuji X100 series, which I always end up buying and then not using much. Have the same actually with the Hassie X2D, but luckily the entry point is above my camera cutoff (meaning the trouble starts when used prices drop).
I'm not one to tell others which camera they should use. I have a hard time figuring out which one I should use.
I just want to see the two-headed person whose camera straps work that way when holding two cameras! ;-)

On a related note:
“ Let’s give the person willing to pluck down $4900 on a camera a little bit of credit…”
I have a personal story that is directly relevant to that general assumption. Im pretty sure that I’ve shared it in hese forums previously. ;-)
REVISED, to clarify for Cheez in the peanut gallery. ;-)
It has to do with a fellow I knew who made the proverbial “metric sh*t ton” of money on a brilliant tech bet that he made when he was a student. He sold it to a, uh, “large international tech firm named after fruit.” He probably had spent less that $5 on a concept that earned him an upper six-figure return… and it was just one of a bunch of similar bets he had made.
I had known him when he was working as a student lab assistant in a facility at the college where I taught. He was a great guy, and we relied on his help. Years later I ran into him at a photography event in The Big City after not seeing him since his student days. We caught up on what had happened in the interim. He told me about earning a huge payoff for his earlier investment. He had recently started to get interested in photography for the first time as a new hobby. He was interested in prints I was showing, and eventually he wanted to talk about the equipment I used.
My newly-rich young friend casually mentioned that he had purchased a $45k medium format digital camera plus various lenses and accessories and generously offered that I could borrow it any time I wanted since he wasn’t using it... because he didn’t really know how to use it, and maybe in return I would help him figure that out…

Come on gdan, we don’t want to hear your story of how you plucked down $5000 on a camera only to realize it’s not the camera that was producing mediocre images.

“This a gimped camera”
“A camera with ibis will come”
People have so many statements about this camera and NEVER shot with it!
I have the camera in use now for 1 week and use it intensively for street.
I have many camera systems (Nikon , Sony Leica M, Fuji x,…) and must say that the SHOOTING EXPERIENCE makes it for me.For those concerned about Ibis and slow lens : don’t worry : after a while , you can shoot effortless with SS 1/50 without loosing sharpness.
Even the highest crop are more than sharp enough , the ergonomics is much better than my Q2 (front heavy , I hated that camera because of front-heaviness).
It’s just a delight to use!

Great report! Thanks for sharing.
Do you know if the X100VI filter/hood accessories fit the RF?

Mine came yesterday. I’ve a busy week at work so won’t be able to test it out until the weekend.
I did see if an old 3rd-party hood that I had lying around from an x100t I once owned would fit the lens ring threads. It won’t. So the x100 TCL/WCL won’t fit without some kind of step-down bodge. I didn’t experiment.

Thanks! A bodge-job doesn't sound like a good idea on a 5K camera When I saw the camera at the Photography Store in Covent Garden I was surprised at the size of the lens filter ring and hood - hopefully they'll be some smaller after market options.

A few (unspectacular) shots with a GFX 100RF pre-production unit - I mostly shoot my GFX 100II in the 65:24 aspect ratio, as I still also regularly use my Hasselblad Xpan - so I did the same with the RF. B&W shots are with the in camera ACROS with red filter or green filter film simulations applied. For those complaining about the lack of IBIS, I've consistently been getting sharp shots handheld at 1/15 sec without any problems. Just don't rush....slow down, use it like you would a Leica M and you'll be fine.

Here is another scenario: out to dinner with friends, this shot is of an open kitchen at the restaurant taken hand-held with an X-T30II and Voigtlander 18mm (27mm equivalent), f/2.8, 1/40s, ISO 1250 and no IBIS.This is a very small and lightweight kit—fun to shoot and a discreet carry. The GFX100RF is bigger, but still could fit in a relatively small bag, which is where I carried the X-T30. The RF at f/4, 1/40s and ISO 2500 would yield a similar image but at higher resolution.
Question is…would this shot with the RF be ruined by camera shake? The RF’s instantaneous field of view is 2X narrower (by the ratio of the real focal lengths 35/18.) If my smear is about 0.25 pixels with the X-T30 then it will be 0.5 pixel in the RF which would be noticeable. To test this, I put a 35mm lens on my X-T30 and shot some pictures stopped down to f/4 in low light at 1/30s. This would be the exact match of the RF: same pixel pitch, same focal length, same light throughput, both without IBIS. Over 90% of my shots were sharp, which confirmed to me I don’t need to worry about low-light shooting with the RF.

I’m an amateur photographer. Photography is a hobby; I enjoy the blend of technology, craftsmanship, and art. I don’t aspire to create masterpieces but I like improving my output. I’m inspired by the greats, but I don’t pretend I could ever approach their level and I’m ok with that.
I just went over several use cases that are typical for me. These might be labeled street/landscape/travel (with environmental portrait and dog action sneaking in.) I think the GFX100RF will excel in all of these. Some might argue this is “niche”…maybe so when compared to the smartphone/instagram market…but I doubt that’s true for photography enthusiasts. Isn’t that what we are in this forum?

Who cares what somebody labels as niche as long as the camera fits your style. F*** them.
