If you just bought their Reader very recently for full price because you read about the firmware issue, get in touch with OWC support and ask for the 50% discount/credit.

Now I'm really getting annoyed. The cards arrived today (a pair of the 480s) and no B-to-A adapter is included. So I can't even use the overpriced OWC reader. Arrgh!

That's odd. The reader ships with an adapter and all six cards I got all came in an adapter, in the case. The case won't even hold a Type A card.

They must have changed things, as neither the OWC reader or the cards came with adapters.

Mine arrived Friday and yesterday so I don't think they changed anything. Very strange.

Ufft. Sorry to read this. Disappointing for sure.

FWIW, my 960GB OWC Type A card and adapter arrived preassembled so to speak ( card already inserted into the adapter).

Mine did as well. The card reader includes one in the box in a card holder. I wonder if he didnt see it? Or it was an open box return without the adapter?

At first glance, I thought OWC sent me a Type B card. My Exascend 4.0 card arrived with the A-B adapter in a separate box, so I wasn't expecting the OWC preassembled packaging. Regardless, hope OWC support will get this sorted for him quickly.

Maybe the adapters only come with the 960GB models? In any case, here's how mine look; no room for an adapter in the little case. Waiting to hear back from OWC to see what they suggest.

Did you get the card reader yet? That has one in the box as well. Or at least mine did and the product listing says its included:

"Versatile: Includes Type A to Type B adapter to allow for reading of Type A format cards, with the ability to obtain maximum speed"

Same here, no adapter in the box, just the card itself.
480GB card.

I did get the reader, and it had no adapter in the box.

Further adding to the story, OWC wrote back:

"the 480GB OWC Atlas Pro CFexpress 4.0 Type A Memory Card that you purchased does not come with an adapter. We only included an adapter for our OWC Atlas CFexpress Card Reader USB4 (40Gb/s) CFexpress 4.0 Type B Card Reader."

Wow, that is super weird - I've just gotten 2 of those cards, each came with an adapter.
Now, the reader did not, but I ordered it on Amazon. It's going back anyways, because I can't get it to work on USB 3.2 2x2 (20gbs) .

lol... I didn't notice any verbiage about an adapter. Opened the box today and initially thought they sent me a Type B card by mistake.

The "OWC Atlas CFexpress Card Reader USB4 " received last week didn't come with an adapter. The 2x 960GB type A cards came with it though.

.

Well, the "480GB OWC Atlas pro type A, etc" that I received a couple of days ago came in a Type B adapter inside a plastic box that was designed to hold the type B adapter.

I was informed by E-Mail from OWC that the number of the card shipped to me did not appear on the list of card requiring updating so I should be OK.

I was inclined to think that was fine but now am curious to see if I can find the actual Firmware version on the card.
So far I have not found a way to do that. One piece of info said that you needed a particular type of reader and software from the manufacturer so I suppose I may have to leave it at that but I am still curious.

I did find in Disk Utility that among the details about the card that it was titled a Prograde CFExpress PG09 Media disk so perhaps proGrade are somewhere in the production scheme of things.

Any, OWC were OK to deal with and they seem to have a three year warranty on the card so I am presuming
that it will work as advertised.

If you are still interested to pursue, according to OWC advertising for the USB4 Reader:

https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/TCCFXB4RDR/

"Versatile: Includes Type A to Type B adapter to allow for reading of Type A format cards, with the ability to obtain maximum speed"

I've given up on it; sending the reader back to B&H. OWC said that cards ordered in 2025 should have the new firmware, so I don't need it (at least for now).

I would be ordering from OWC itself since they most likely have them updated already as BH might be older stock. I order everything directly from OWC. Always go to the source IMHO. My new card was updated and had the Adapter. I had to update an older card.

I ordered directly from OWC as well. But I also read that all Atlas Pro CFexpress Type A cards and the USB4 Reader come with the OWC A-B adapter. So not sure what happened in Mike's case unless it's a B&H older stock issue as you wrote.

Good to know your Atlas Pro CFexpress 4.0 Type A 480GB cards came w/ the A-B adapter too.
