Is that a CFexpress A to B adapter? It came with the OWC card?

Yes they come with the cards and I just leave it in the reader. It sticks out very little. Or better said it don't bother me at all

I've also read, but not yet tried for myself, we might be able to use Type A cards in some Type B cameras with these A to B adapters too. Even though Type B cards tend to be less expensive than Type A, the benefit of this would be of course if we already own Type A cards and then buy or Rent a Type B camera. I've read the actual in-camera performance between Type A and faster Type B cards is currently very similar. But again I haven't tested this myself.

Or...the OWC 4.0 Reader price of $99 plus the low, low, low, LOW $139 price for 480GB 4.0 OWC card together is still a steal compared to other like 480GB name-brand, CFe-A cards alone 😎

BTW, from what I just read, if concerned you can also send your card back to OWC and they will update the firmware and send it back to you.

$99 for a reader is well beyond what I'm willing to pay. I get that it is USB 4, but I'm okay with a sub $20 10Gbps CFe Type A & B reader from AliExpress.

I got my 480GB OWC CFe 4.0 card today. I tested it against my Delkin Devices 160GB Green CFe 2.0 VPG400 card using CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4 in a 10Gbps USB-C reader.

It looks like your read speed is limited by your usb port / reader / cable / ...
It should be about 2x in sequential read.
As for write speed, the camera body is the limiting factor, so not much to be seen there (for stills at least) ...

There is an article in Peta pixel concerning OWC cards needing to have a firmware update, something about heavy usage.
It can be done yourself if you have their card reader otherwise they need to do it to your card.
The reason seems to be associated with some significant level of usage. Not sure just what that means.
I have one of their cards in the mail so I guess I will have an interest although I don't see myself as stressing the card with what I do.
No doubt there will be more info coming.

Ouch, that's sad to read.
I wonder if the cards that are sent out now are already updated, as I don't think shipping from EU will make sense :| ...

I'll hopefully find out more on Monday. OWC support is pretty good at responding to chat on their website. I'm guessing I have the latest firmware on my recent OWC card purchase as the OWC app didn't update the card's firmware when I first scanned the new card, but better to be sure given this PetaPixel article.

SO I just tired Blackmagic on my Card in my ThunderBolt 5 port I connected the reader

My read and writes on the card are 1500 plus. Thats pretty darn fast

Interesting they are ExFAT formattted which I guess must be for PC and MAC units

This card I updated this morning. I have a new one coming

The Card rating is writes 1850 and reads 1700 which is damn close to that. Im on a 480gb card

These are why I bought these cards its for the download speed to computer. I need to work fast get the Raws get them processed and than uploaded quickly to sell.

BTW off topic . I did not miss my Mac Studio for a second in LA doing the show this Mac mini beat the band, worked perfectly and I still have not heard the fans

I contacted them to ask if the cards they're shipping now are updated already or not, but I don't anticipate I will hear back until Monday due to the weekend.

OWC's Atlas Pro CFexpress 4.0 Type A, 960GB tested with 1GB file on desktop apps AJA, ATTO Disk Benchmark, Blackmagicdesign, AmorphousDiskMark (macOS 15,2). I use a couple different apps due to the variations in test data/approach:

Can you test ATTO at 32GB? 1GB is too short for writes, not even one buffer full of RAW files.

Just got my new card in the mail. Before any update Firmware is ELFM95.02 which looks like they already did IT as no firmware comes up to download . Looking at the Older card it has this firmware because I did update it earlier. So looks like you want to get to this ELFM95.02

Received 2x 960GB with the type B 4.0 reader, from B&H this week. The firmware on both cards was ELFM95.01. It's now ELFM95.02 after the update.
I agree $100 for a card reader is a bit too much, but the transfer speeds are great (I'm on a Mac Studio), and to be able to update the firmware in a few seconds is big plus. Their Innergize software can also be useful to check the card health and low level format. And it's indeed not inconvenient to keep the A/B adapter in the reader. The card insertion/removal is easy.

Honestly Im pretty sure your not going to find a T4 Thunderbolt Reader for that much less. This one was 79 a month ago. For me this whole thing is not about costs although I like to save money too but more about reliable products that fly with speed in my system. I just billed a ton of money off SmugMug from the show 3 weeks ago. So costs are not a big deal getting them up to see and do it fast are priority one. Seriously I could easily go buy a A1II plus plus if I wanted too. But given my limited use case it's better to rent . I know these costs are not made up for the hobbyists and totally get that . Just a report on how Pro level folks are working. Im actually trying to cut back.

I'm afraid that will be the case for me too...
How long did it take to get an answer, as I've been waiting already for 2h?

From my email

4. If you do not have an OWC card reader, please OWC’s support team by visiting their web site and they will provide you with additional options, including helping to get a reader in your hands or performing the firmware update for you free of charge. OWC will pay for shipping both ways!

I chatted with them over their website chat window, so it was only a couple of minutes from requesting the chat to getting someone.
