This is why I want to hear from someone who shoots wildlife or sports to get a sense of this use case. I don't expect A1 like experience but how close is the SL3.
Take a read of Jono Slacks SL3 review where he talks about comparisons to A1 and other cameras.
If you’re doing wildlife or sports photography as a main pursuit and not a Leica ambassador there’s no way you’d pick this over the Sony a1 or nikon z8 from both a camera capability and lens selection perspective.
Best case, the camera is comparable to a Sony a7r v which is accurate but a bit slow. However having used the Leica q3, Sony a1 and a7rv before, there’s no way the af is anywhere as good as what Sony can do. If you hate the Sony ergonomics, go Nikon.
That said, the dpreview samples with the sl3 + 90mm f2 apo sl shows this can be an amazing portrait photography system because of the lenses.

I had the a1 and the a9ii, also the SL2, SL2-S and now the SL3.
I agree with everything above. I think you’re being very generous when you say the SL3 compares with the a7r v in terms of AF. The Sony is still ahead by a large margin.
I was also surprised by this comment (SL3 is as good as A7R V in terms of its auto focus). Even though I don‘t have a SL2 or SL3, just from what I read about these cameras, I thought it might not be as capable. In addition, if the Leica SL3 is relatively close to the Panasonic S5II, it‘s rather unlikely that it matches the Sony A7R V. But correct me, if I‘m wrong. Would be great news.
I find it hard to believe the SL3 AF's like a Sony, but I had my fill of Sony's long ago. No character and messed up menus.
This new UI on the SL3 is incredible and I KNOW it will take me some time to adjust to its particularities. The favorites menu is gone, but one of my screen setups includes top and side Leicans then you can change items with a tap on the LCD or if you use some all the time just set them up with a new User Profile which now offers 6 available. Setting up User Profiles just seemed easier on the SL3 too.
I have some SL2S's and that is why I got the SL3 since I have many SL lenses and also wanted to somewhat match my M11, M11M and Q3 60MP workflows. Just the multi-shot feature alone on the SL2S made it one of my favorite Leica landscape cameras. That said they forgot it on the SL3, but more than one source believes it will be back and capable of 240MP DNG single images. That nearly doubles my last Phase IQ4 with 150MP. Just selling that DB plus 5 lenses and my Alpa kit allowed me to buy all of my Leica gear with funds still in my pocket.
SL-primarily landscape and occasionally portraits or similar. Birds and bugs generally not for me. Sure I can take other cameras, but sand and wind can reek havoc on your gear and my recent Death Valley trip was perfect for the SL and the Q3.

For the record, I said "best case" as a generous hedge so any SL fanboys don't come after me. Based on my experiences with the A7RV and the Q3, the A7RV is significantly better and I would not expect the SL3 to be close but can't say for certain without trying it.
As a Leica SL enjoyer, I also don't buy that the SL3 comes even close in AF performance to the Sony. I wholeheartedly agree that if you're looking to buy the SL3 for sports or shooting fast-moving subjects like wildlife, look somewhere else...even if i don't have the SL3 (yet). it's not built for that purpose no matter what Leica says.

Even on utube Reddot forum (Leica Miami) Farkas says the SL3 is not for sports or wildlife in his opinion, even though he has not tried it as yet.
He also mentions why the SL3 does not come with charger. Apparently due to a new EU regulation and Apple does not provide an iPhone charger any longer for this reason along with changing iPhone charging cable to USB-C-that I like. I was not aware of this new "stupid" no charger rule. Anker must have lobbied the heck in Brussels for that change.
How do you compare the UI between the X2D 100 and the SL3? Thanks.
The X2D is better. But it's also simpler. I don't think that either is bad.
I HATE the new auto ISO implementation on the SL3. It's daft and unnecessarily complicated. The new Leica UI is basically a font. The SL2 was fine. Leica make a big deal about the new quick menu but there's only 11 options for 8 buttons. Why bother? All the other options should be available.
Either is better than anything else out there. And most people won't need the manual for either.

Moet wildlife just doesn't move that fast. And when it does the A7R5 is the wrong camera as much as the SL3. For BiF you get an A1. For the rest you just need accuracy (I'm looking at you Canon) not speed.
The A7R5 has much. better AFC (afs is about the same) but for the main 7se case of those cameras (highest resolution) I wonder how much that difference makes. It'll be the A1ii that's going to be the big action camera.

To me the Auto ISO setup is the same as the SL2/SL2S when on M or A priority. Have not set it up on other Exp. modes yet. I put max ISO to 50,000 and min SS to 1/500 for my needs and at least at that setting it will continue at 1/500 until light level gets so very low that it would need to reduce the SS after hitting 50000 ISO which is very dark shooting while in A Mode. I do not use flash. One can of course choose a lower Auto ISO number, but I want to make sure my 1/500 does not get reduced without my setting it at a slower SS.
I set the Focus Mode to MF which allows me to use the back button focus while pressing the joystick and this separates AF from exposure.

It's switching between auto and manual that I hate using the new dial. It's shit.

I haven't figured out how to get it into Auto ISO without using the touchscreen.
A quick anecdote... and I already know it was user error, but in the years that I've owned my SL2-S this has never happened:
I was shooting the other day outdoors in full sun. I keep my shutter in hybrid mode, but didn't think anything of it, as I knew the electronic shutter would never come into play with the available light. I always shoot in aperture priority mode at events with a minimum shutter speed of 1/250 and Auto ISO (max 6400). This was no problem, as auto ISO was pretty much staying between 100-200 and the shutter speed was usually higher than 1/250, but never near 1/8000. The first half of the day went off without a hitch. I realized later in the day that somehow the camera ended up in shutter priority mode. Worse, because I had the camera in hybrid shutter, the shutter speed somehow ended up locked at 1/16,000 - which pushed my ISOs up to 6400 at times. The images of cars weren't a problem, but I shot a few portraits and the noise left the eyes looking slightly unsharp. Definitely my fault for not periodically checking my display, but it shouldn't be so easy to inadvertently switch priority modes.
