When we visited CR and Africa I took (back in my Canon days) a 300 and both TC's.
Owning a 600/4 now if I were to do those trips again I'd take the Sony 300 and both
TC's.

I always hear people who come back from Africa saying you should minimize your lens changes because of the dust. Wouldn't having a lens you had to change back and forth from TC to no TC be bad for dust?
Mine arrived today and I'll get out with it this weekend. Plan to test it with the 600GM
Someone mentioned either here or one of the Sony FB groups that the Sigma LCF-105 III lens cap works on the 300GM. I can definitively report that it does not fit because it never clicks into place as designed. Falls right off so this is going back to Amazon
I plan to 3D print a cap and hood at some point. Hopefully RolanPro will come out with the 300GM cover as well

Yeah I mentioned this. Obviously the cap isn't made for the 300 and the 300 is not made for caps, but it clamps well enough for me to hold the lens upside down and shake it quite a bit without falling off. I did 2 flights with the lens + sigma cap this weekend without problems. Perhaps there's a slight variance between units

Might be some variation but definitely doesn't work for me. It never seats well enough for me to feel that it's gonna hold. For flights in a padded bag I think it's fine. As a walk around I would lose this thing in the first outing. Zemilin has one but it's $90. I can just as easily go into Fusion 360 and create one to print

Check this site for short lens hood and lens’ cap.
Thank you. Those look like the ones Jon sold for the 600GM. This cap was just a stop gap anyway until I had time to prototype one to 3D print. I have a base cylinder design in Fusion 360 and can just resize it to the dimensions of the 300mm GM. Then I can print it in ASA where it will be sure to not warp from UV and heat.
