BTW what frame rate did you use and what delay in pre-capture?

Thanks, but honestly it's a pretty decent camera/lens combination doing the heavy lifting - these birds are quick and hard to see in that foliage so you are heavily reliant on the gear.
Shot at 120fps - pre-capture is 0.5 seconds.
The lens is pretty special though - no problem cropping these A9iii images despite being shot under thunderclouds and in the shadow of a 60 meter rock wall.

Thanks again duncangr, I agree the camera and lens help with the heavy lifting.
Nevertheless being there at the right time and the photographer still count.
I have been shooting my A9 III with my FE 400/2.8 GM and other lenses quite a bit.
I mostly use 120 FPS and a delay of 0.7 or 0.8s and saved up to 192 frames of continues action.
Here on FM I have posted a number of the GIF animations that I derived from those frames.
There really is no other camera like it.
And shooting an A1 or A1 II at 30 FPS is quite a different experience.
I have the A1 but will keep holding off on the getting an A1 II.
May be an A1 III will eventually catch up with the high frame rate of the A9 III.
