Aside from more internal memory, that’s what they always do. Anyway, probably a Safari version too. I love your black pain M10R, BTW.

This seems like one of the major new functions included in the M11-P. It looks to me that it is implemented by an encryption chipset so I don't think it will find its way into older Leica cameras unfortunately.

"The Leica M11-P is the world's first camera equipped with a function that seamlessly guarantees the authenticity of photographs from the time they are taken to the release of the photograph. The Leica M11-P is the world's first camera equipped with a function that seamlessly guarantees the authenticity of photographs from the time they are taken to the time they are published. The Leica M11-P is a function based on CAI's efforts that adds encrypted metadata."

Thanks for the link. Here is the translated info from Map Camera:

The world's first camera with features to ensure the authenticity of photos from capture to publication seamlessly, the "Leica M11-P" is the first camera to feature encrypted metadata. This feature, known as "Leica Content Credentials," enhances transparency in the creation and editing of image data, allowing the recognition of image data lineage. It affixes a digital signature, backed by a CAI-compliant certificate, to the images taken.

The technology used in this feature allows for proof of image authenticity through a special hardware inside the camera. It also includes a special chipset to store digital certificates issued by the German Federal Printing Office. This advanced feature ensures a mechanism to definitively prove the image's history. By using the "Leica Content Credentials" feature, you can apply a signature that guarantees the image's authenticity through a special algorithm. It can also include information about the camera model, manufacturer, and image capture details. These details cannot be altered later, and they can be verified at any time using open-source tools provided by CAI. This allows for proof of the image's authenticity and the ability to determine whether the image is an original capture or has been edited, along with a history of the edits made. This enables photographers to demonstrate the authenticity of their photos throughout the entire process from capture to publication.

They also listed the black version as Leica M11-P "Black Paint".

Damm! Sounds like I was wrong. Not sure I need proof of authenticity other than to prove I didn't use AI. Is it a new black paint or the same black paint?

Hers is a link to what is said to be complete specifications.

https://leicarumors.com/2023/10/25/this-is-the-leica-m11-p-camera.aspx/#more-89640

One thing I find interesting is the recommended SD Memory Card being USH-1 for the M11-P while on release the M!! was recommended to be USH-II.

M11-P Recording media: SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card (UHS-I recommended, SDXC up to 2TB)

M11 UHS-II (recommended), UHS-I, SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card (SDXC cards up to 2 TB, internal memory 64 GB)

I have only used one card in my M11 since the day I got it. It is the inexpensive (now), 64 GB card to match the internal memory of the M11. I have yet to fill it in a single day of shooting.

Sony SF-G Series 64GB UHS-II U3 Class 10 SDXC Memory Card, Maximum 300 MB/s Read and 299 MB/s Write Speed E-

At first I thought that since I have never had issues with lockup and other problems that many report that Leica might have found that SD Cards were the problem so the rolled back to USH-1. But, that doesn't seem to be the case. I wonder why they went backwards like this.

Porsche will release a V12 front engine 911 variant before Leica puts Auto Focus in an M camera. Porsche will never do that, and Leica M will never have AF.

The new 28 Summicron is interesting. I just wish they kept the coin edge around the bottom of the aperture ring, wonder why they departed from that design.

I noticed that note too. UHS-I vs UHS-II

One thing I noticed when I first started shooting Leica ( the M10 in 2018) is the Leica Forum tends to talk a lot about SD card brands that work well with Leica cameras and those that cause problems. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of agreement on which brand(s) or type is the best for Leica and which causes problems.

I wasn't surprised when the SD Card theme transitioned to the M11 and some blamed various SD cards that might be causing M11 problems. But again not a lot of agreement on the card brands or types even though some posted evidence of their claims for a specific brand/type card. Last I paid attention, some were talking about UHS-I type cards vs UHS-II SD cards might be optimal for M11 operations.

FWIW, I use both UHS-II and UHS-I cards on the M11 and multiple brands to include Sony, Sandisk and Lexar with no issues. [/I]

And then there's this on LUF:

A bit more on "the world’s first camera to offer image authentication with Content Credentials"

https://www.macfilos.com/2023/10/26/leica-m11-p-the-worlds-first-camera-to-offer-image-authentication-with-content-credentials/

"From Leica’s perspective, Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Leica Camera AG, says: “Leica cameras have always stood witness to iconic moments in world history. However, determining the authenticity of visual content has become increasingly difficult and important in the age of digital photography. Now, with the ability to provide this proof, we are once again strengthening trust in digital content and re-establishing Leica cameras as authoritative tools in the documentation of world events.”

Speaking on behalf of Adobe, Santiago Lyon, head of Advocacy and Education, said: “…this is a significant milestone for the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and the future of photojournalism: It will usher in a powerful new way for photojournalists and creatives to assert their digital rights, combat misinformation and bring authenticity to their work and consumers, while promoting widespread adoption of Content Credentials.

About the Content Credentials and Content Authenticity Initiative

Adobe co-founded the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) in 2019 to help combat the threat of misinformation and ensure proper attribution for creators. Today the CAI is a coalition of nearly 2,000 members, including AFP, the Associated Press, the BBC, Getty Images, Leica Camera, Microsoft, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal and more. All are working together to add a verifiable layer of transparency and trust to content online – via secure metadata called Content Credentials. Between the tremendous momentum in attracting new members and the growing adoption of Content Credentials by leaders spanning multiple industries, the CAI is ensuring that technological innovations are built on ethical foundations. Please visit the Content Authenticity Blog for more information."

I suppose they can't announce anything that would freak out existing M11/M11M owners, but would be reassuring to hear anything has changed in the M11P internals to mitigate what is clearly some sort of chip/software issue causing freezes.

I've been shooting digital Ms since they've existed (and that whacky Epson) and M11 ranks up there towards the top in terms of having some sort of issue lurking that is still not properly diagnosed. I thought the M10 era put an end to the reliability quirks, but here we are.

I've been sitting on the sidelines waiting to see if they resolve via FW patch or at least users/Leica narrow down the scope of what triggers the issue. M10R gets the job done for now. The M11 weight, USB-C charging & better EVF resolution for close focus is about the only reasons to upgrade I suppose.

I recently started a google shared sheet in hopes that people could plug in the settings they had in place when they got a freeze - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XHp7LttBW3yRCpSmLNlyfK0Fz4fKZLRR6xw1aKRjtgw/edit#gid=0

I think ultimately what will come out is that there's some combination of card/battery state/automation settings in place that are higher risk. Which means there are likely certain features that, if avoided, eliminate 90% of freezing. The fact that some people have repeated freezing across multiple FW versions & warranty replacement bodies while other users report zero ever.. makes me think it comes down to the configuration.

I mean.. hate to be a downer here, but who knows if this new content credentials chip/software doesn't make the freezing worse, lol.

But who knows. Clearly not Leica if they are still issuing patch after patch & shipping replacement bodies!

And I just picked up a 28 too! (the voigtlander color-skopar f/2.8 typ1)

With how little has changed from the base M11 to the M11-P (from what I can gather) I kind of wish they also released a M11-D along side the M11-P.

Will this CAI feature be firmware updated for M10's?
