Hmm, then why do all the Sony published body photos with primes mostly show the 24 f1.4 and 50 f1.4 GM attached??

to make profit? As a user, you should look beyond marketing. A camera with a relatively small grip with heavy lenses will not feel comfortable. A camera where its largest attribute is being small, matches better with smaller lenses.

Absolutely. They made that 50/1.4 GM look good on that picture because it was shot from the front, not the side.

I think this is the key point. Better to go APS-C if you want small, because the lenses are smaller.

The user manual is not yet available, but I found the following on the Sony website:

“Only 100 Hz and 120 Hz flicker are detected. Continuous shooting speed may decrease. Phase-detection AF coverage is reduced. Flicker-free shooting is not available during silent shooting, BULB exposure, or movie recording.”

There is a photo of the three menu items:

Anti-flicker shooting
Var. shutter
Var. shutter set

You can use APS-C lenses on these cameras too. Or you can simply carry less lenses and crop in post.

Yes, this is the same way it is on A7RV.
If you want anti-flicker (only 100/120hz so standard leds), you cannot use electronic (silent) shutter.
Var. shutter (to deal with non-standard / mixed lightning) should work in electronic (silent) shutter but you need to use a shooting mode that controls the shutter speed then (S or M...).

Guy, am I right in thinking that the "jumbled bokeh" issue at 1,000ss or greater with the new A7C models is not an issue with the A6700 because of the APS-C mode? Have you shot portraits yet with the A6700 with or without flash and if so any issues?

I wanted to get an A7C model for a 2nd smaller body, but as I explained in post #13 above I use fast primes and will be shooting a lot of photos at faster than 1/1,000ss. And at times I do use fill flash. Am fine with the 26MP, as I

APS-C mode doesn't matter in the case of "jumbled bokeh", but A6700 has full mechanical shutter (which fixes the issue) .
TBH, you could shoot your portraits using electronic (silent) shutter, granted that you hold the camera steadily and your models don't move to fast...

Just a note I wanted to follow up on. The Camera Size .com website now supports the new A6700, A7C II, and A7CR along with the older A7C. From this you can see that while the grip on the new A7C II and A7CR are deeper than the older A7C they are not as deep as the grip on the A6700.
Now owning the A6700 I like the grip on it and it feels like an A7 IV. I don’t know how the two new A7C II an R cameras will really feel even though a few reviews only mention it

Thanks, that's a great find ... and another Sony decision I will never understand .

I have serious GAS for the r version to lighten my load backpacking, climbing, and back-country skiing. The lower quality EVF experience would be a bummer compared to my A7rV, but I would happily trade that for the size etc. as long as the results are equivalent. I'm going to keep hauling the V for a while though and wait for prices to drop a bit and more long term reviews, esp. from users like me.

I like you was hoping Sony would get these Version 2 C's right. Unfortunately as I mentioned before they have intentionally handicapped them in ways to make them less attractive than they could have been. Super disappointing. So RV stays in the pack. At the end of the day I would love the form factor but the cumulative gimping of the A7CR is not worth the weight savings of 208grams to me. Maybe in 3 years they will get it right

But Tim they raised the price as well. I think even at 3200 for the A7RC would have been reasonable . They overpriced the A7CII by a lot the original was 1750 I believe now 2200. Thats a stretch in my book . Just pointing that out and yea we certainly have dealt with this before with SONY

$1799 for the A7C at launch.

We've had 25% inflation in the price of everything over the 3 years since the A7C was released!

That would put price at $2248.75

They launched $50 cheaper than that.

I get the A7c's are smaller and lighter. It's the lenses that really make the size big or little. I'll keep my A7RlV. It's only 150 grams more and I don't have to worry about mechanical shutter, two card slots and the floppy screen I like. Sure I'd like a smaller camera but if it doesn't have when I need on it then it doesn't matter how small it is.

YMMV

The Sigma 65/2 DC DN is a lens I own and have used it on my A7C. It is the largest/longest of the series I think. But you can also look at the new Viltrox f/1.2 75mm and 27mm for APS-C and that are even heavier (own the 75/1.2 for my A6700).
I guess after using so many big GM lenses those don’t phase me much.

The 2.8/90mm of the Sigma iSeries is longer and at 295g considerably lighter than the 65 at 405g.

Did you mean to say "The 2.8/90mm of the Sigma iSeries is longer "? It's shorter than the 65.

i90 - φ2.5in. × 2.4in.
i65 - φ2.8in. × 3.0in.

I assumed that „longest“ refered to the focal length. If physical length (dimensions) was meant, then my comment obviously missed the point.😉

I think the person you were quoting was saying largest and longest.........so I took that in the context of dimensions, not focal length. Dunno whose interpretation is right....

Thanks for finding and posting this. The fact that at least the A7Cr has variable shutter and auto-detect for LED and other artificial lights is a very big deal for me since I often shoot under LEDs. It really does make the A7Cr pretty much a smaller-bodied A7RV in my view.

I meant physically longer that effects balance not focal length. Sorry for creating that confusion.

The A1 no longer has a mechanical front curtain and hence EFCS is always active when using the mechanical shutter. This tends not to be a problem as the electronic shutter is so good. But if you need the mechanical shutter, shooting fast and wide open, you can get hit by the cut of bokeh edge.

For some reason, I missed this. Where can I read more about it?

Full Mechanical shutter (not EFCS) is the most reliable way to get a good photo without flicker

Just curious what do you think will be your preferred lenses for the very small but mighty resolving A7c R camera body ?
