- 33mp sensor from the A7iv
- BIONZ XR chipset with new menus, touch menus etc
- AF from the A7iv + 2 years development + AI chip from A7RV + faster readout than A7RV = outstanding AF, probably the best to date
- Single SD slot - No CF Express option to keep size and costs down
- Same EVF as 6700 - slightly better 0.7x magnification than old A7C
- Same LCD as A7C - possibly the higher res screen from A7iv?
- Half shutter with EFCS
- Same IBIS as A7C, with slight improvement from algorithm updates
- New features eg. Focus breathing compensation, focus stacking
I don't think the A7CR exists, or at least not for the 29th....Show more →
OK well my guess for the A7cii was pretty good:
- Improved 0.7x EVF
- Improved A7iv LCD screen
- Much improved AF with AI
- IBIS improvement to 7 stops, unsure if this is mechanical or algorithmic
- Focus breathing compensation, focus stacking
- SD only, no CF Express support
a bit sad to have the confirmation that Sony sees pixel-shift as a feature only for their high-res top of the line cameras, it could've been such a powerful tool for that 33mp sensor
Miss for me on the a7CR from the rumors is the missing vari-angle lcd. Really wish it had been in there, but it's not and otherwise it's looking very compelling.
Max shutter of 1/4000 on both cameras. I wish the a7CR could do 1/8000. In practice it probably wouldn't be too limiting but the a7CR just doesn't offer enough over the a7C II for me.
No real mechanical shutter . Not sure I want to be without. I have it on my A7r5 but will see . Sync speed, flash and that stuff could be compromised. Have to see
No immediate need for the A7c R; I am covered with the A7r V. I will wait until the end of the year to grab one. I hope the price will be lower than the introductory price, at least, through some other channels.

In the Northrup video, I think they said the sync speed was trash. I don't use flash, so I kind of glossed over that section of the video.
I was going to pre-order both to downsize my kit, but with no real mechanical shutter I'm now a little hesitant. Not a fan of the EFCS bokeh issue, I like to chase my toddler daughter with fast lenses during the day.
The a7cII for me is still the more appealing of the pair, but now I'm just not sure.

The lack of the 4d screen is a deal-breaker for me.
Well I already planned to sell my A7C (save $1000 in the FM Buy and Sell ) but now should I sell my new A6700 since it does look like the A7C II picked up all the new features at least for stills shooting?
Can also divest myself of the APS-C lenses I bought. Currently have the A7RV and A7IV so don’t really need either but very attractive.
Definitely plan to buy the FE 16-35/2.8 GM II since my son permanently borrowed by version I.

The A7CR definitely brings something new to the table... but isn't the gap between A7C and A7Cii minimal if you only care about stills?
- Slightly? better sensor (24Mp vs 33Mp)
- Significantly? better AF
- Slightly? better EVF
- Extra dial, extra custom button and new menus
In Europe, I just bought a new A7C for 1500 euro from Amazon, the A7CII is 2400. Is the above worth it the 900 extra euros?
It looks like it still has the same crappy little EVF as the ancient A6500...
