I was going to pre-order both to downsize my kit, but with no real mechanical shutter I'm now a little hesitant. Not a fan of the EFCS bokeh issue, I like to chase my toddler daughter with fast lenses during the day.
The a7cII for me is still the more appealing of the pair, but now I'm just not sure.
Hmm...

I'm pretty disappointed by this also. The effect on bokeh is not bad at 1/1000s IMO, that is kind of the threshold for me, so it's avoidable if you utilize NDs. But staying under 1/1000s when I'm shooting kids sports is a no-go.
Maybe next generation Sony can make a stacked sensor model (A1c?) that has no physical shutter at all. They could reduce the size even more.

I would settle for an A9c! For Sony, this would be a logical step to take.
The naming of the A7cr is baffling. To me, A7R is a recognizable family of cameras and adding the “c” at the end of it (A7Rc) communicates volumes more than the A7cr. But what do I know, I’m just an old fart whose days of shooting-for-dough have long since past!

I was watching Julia Trotti's video on the cII, she was shooting backlit portraits with the 35 GM wide open, subject in front of foliage, fastest SS was 1/1250 and bokeh looked good. She posted higher SS shots, but the background was a solid wall.
Hopefully we see more samples where someone specifically tests the EFCS for any issues. Otherwise I'll wait until deliveries start and ask someone here to test before buying.
I see in Mark Galler´s review that the grip is a bit larger than the a7c as well.
Noticeable? I don't know. I have the A6400 and A6700 and there has been more discussion/negatives about the A7C vs the A6xxxs. I think it remains a personal factor that one may need to check. but this should give the A6700 level finder. I follow one more video/hybrid vlogger and he found the A6700 finder a valuable difference for use compared to the finder less vlog/video-oriented cams. And no comment on the "quality." others have found the finders to be deal breakers coming to the A6xxxs, etc., from the larger A7s.

From what I understand of how EFCS works, it is not camera dependent, so there's no reason to expect any different result with these new models as we've seen previously. It doesn't surprise me that at 1/1250 the samples look fine--as I said, 1/1000 is where it starts to be noticeable, but not bad yet. At 1/4000s though, watch your 50/1.2 GM start to look like a cheap f1.8.

Rumors look to have been dead on. Just got an A7R V for about the cost of the A7C R but I think that will be my backup camera.
Well, given all the rumoring, somebody had to be right. I contributed a few guesses. Some were even close. Having just added an A6700, I'm somewhat immune form "needing" to look to these two.

Efcs is physics right? The lack of full mechanical with a slow readout is a deal breaker for me. Zv-e1 is even better for photos vs a7cii at the same price due to better read out. The cut out Bokeh is very obvious at 1/4000 which renders that unusable.
