p.2 #1 · Sony A7C II Leaked images

It looks to me like the A7CII will handle mostly like a A7xxx series camera in the making of photographs. This is one of the things that makes the front wheel a big deal, as well as the apparent exposure compensation wheel. With the A7C, I had to use the back dial for shutter speed and the top wheel for aperture. Then when I was using one of my A7xxx series bodies, I had to use the front wheel for shutter instead of the back dial. My thumb and forefinger got confused in moving between bodies. The mismatch made for poor muscle memory and sometimes slowed responses to a scene. So the front wheel and the exp comp wheel are very important to me in making this camera handle in use like an A7xxx.

The projection for the EVF looks a little larger to me and the body does seem a tad thicker. That gives me hope that they have increased the magnification for the EVF. If they haven't that would not be a deal breaker for me, but it would be great if they did do theat. They certainly must have heard enough complaints about the EVF on the A7C.

The expected bump in mpix and the improved AI autofocus would be very nice.

The only other issue is how good the image stabilization is. The smaller body made Sony use a different stabilization system for the A7C. The same factors may limit how much they could improve it for the A7CII.

We'll see pretty soon.

I predict if they bumped up the evf mag even a skosh GM will have a very hard time resisting. For me I really want that a7rc rumor to be true.

It's deeper. There's no way they could fit their new, larger shutter release button on the old 7c grip. If that photo's accurate, the grip will be roughly the same size as the one on the 6700, which is nicely comfortable given the size of the camera.

The grip on the 6700 feels very good. Just the right balance.

The A7c was perfect as it was. Why not "leak" images of small, fast lenses that complement the A7c?

More of the same, no realworld advantage.

Sony continues to delight some by serving up some of the smallest full frame cameras in the market ( w/ some tradeoffs) But apparently high quality small compact full frame lenses with AF is a tough nut to crack.

There are more than a few smallish full frame, AF Emount lenses out there but apparently not small enough to placate those on their never ending search for small and compact AF lenses that support high full frame IQ.

I thought the Sony G trio announced with the original a7c was a good start, but I noticed the price of these tiny G lenses was a also an indication of IQ.

Sony! Why not build the same with the very best IQ you can design in small and compact AF lens and then charge premium prices accordingly?

P.S. Or maybe still impossible to develop tiny(smaller then GM lenses) high quality FF optics with auto focus without a lot of compromises?

Other than the slower speed of the tiny Sony G trio lenses, I find nothing to complain about with the image quality of all three lenses. They are a joy to use.

I own the Sony 50 mm f/1.2 GM lens. Pictures from that lens, when shot at the same f-stop as pictures from my Sony 50 mm f 2.5 G lens, are for all intents and purposes impossible to distinguish. The same holds true with my 40 mm f/2.5 G when I compare it to images taken with my Sony 35 mm f 1.4 GM at the same f-stop. And again, when I compare my Sony 24 mm f/1.4 GM to my Sony 24 mm f 2.8 G, the images are virtually identical, when shot at the same f-stop.

Owning those three tiny G lenses has really changed the way that I think about using primes on my camera. I use them far more often than the faster GM versions that cover the same focal length. The GMs can do everything I need from a lens. The tiny G's can do everything the GMs can do except really wide aperture images. For the majority of what I shoot, f/2.5-f/2.8 is just the right mix of depth of field and speed. Your mileage may vary.

I wish that Sony would roll out more of these small G lenses with moderate speed and excellent image quality. For what it's worth, the Sigma 90 mm DGDN f 2.8 contemporary lens complements the existing Sony G lenses with similar image quality, speed, and size. I can carry three lenses in my coat pocket with the fourth lens mounted on my A7 RV and have relatively fast and incredibly high quality images. Very cool.

It can be done. The proof is Canon RF 16mm f2.8 and RF 28mm f2.8. These lenses don't have IS, but they are small, fast, full frame and affordable.

A Sony FE 16mm f2.8 G is not impossible.

The main trade-off is that the lenses will be slower. Faster lenses with an aperture of f/1.4, which provide high image quality from well-corrected optics and fast autofocus, will always be larger unless there's a significant advancement in glass technology.

+1 hoping they improve the EVF magnification otherwise not considering it. bought and sold the A7C twice because of the EVF - 2nd time hoping I could deal with it since the IQ is great but the EVF was still a no-go for me

On the APSC side of things there are some really good optics with the fast glass. The new 15 1.4 is really good as well as the 11mm. I have yet to get to longer glass but I would try and compare the A7C and 6700 on size /weight and optical quality before making any decision and remember these are rumors at the moment. I went 6700 and honestly I don't see anything to go back to the A7C I had the original one twice now but this 6700 matches my A7RV quite nicely so for me a good choice. Honestly if the EVF has not changed I would not even consider it. FF your glass is going to be bigger if you want small 26mpx 6700 is perfect for hobbyists

I don’t think a premium priced slow lens would sell very well no matter what IQ it brings to the table. Not when there is already a good assortment of slow small lenses that offer very good IQ.

Those two cameras are quite different. Can’t understand how one could compare the two.

I have been holding on to the Samyang 45mm 1.8 and 75 1.8 specifically in hopes of an A7CR body. They weigh nothing and are optically good. All I need is the camera Throw in my 20mm 1.8 and It's a reasonably small, fast enough set.

So at the moment I have both the A7C and now the A6700 and both small APS-C and FF Sigma I-Series and small Sony G glass plus smaller Sigma f/2.8 zooms for both. I consider this as competitors but will make a decision once the A7C II or A7CR become a reality. I consider these kit completely separate from my A1s and A7RV and my array of larger full frame GM glass.

If the A7C II has good features and good ergonomics then I may stay FF. But if lacks the APS-C can make a great travel kit so we will see. Will it be an A6700 with Full Fram 33 Mpixel sensor, great or something less? Just have to wait and see.

I wonder if it will still have that mandatory EFCS from the a7c. Maybe I'm a bit too critical but that was the one thing that spoiled the original for me.

Do you think Sony will price this above or below the ZV-E1?

I wouldn’t mind an expansion of the initial 3 cupcake G primes.

I was one of those initially disappointed when they weren’t real pancakes, but after playing around with the Canon RF 16mm and the Nikon Z 26mm pancake, I think I know why Sony refuses to do pancakes with STM motors. The squeaky AF motors plus inevitable comparison to the faster XD linear motors will be enough to put a lot of people off.

I wouldn’t mind slower and smaller f/3.5 or f/4 primes, but I understand that is very unlikely. These things are just too niche, in a market where everyone wants fast, fast glass. I’ve even seen popular YouTubers wonder why their videos on lenses like the 20-70G are severely underperforming. To me, that’s indicative of the overall market. Outside of enthusiast places like FM, f/4 zooms and f/2.8 primes just don’t sell that well.
