Understand your point of view and it does differ from mine. Admit a proper A7CR tweaks my interest but not sure I want to spend $3400 or what ever they price it at if it’s over $3000. Especially since I’m less likely to mount my great GM lenses on it that I use on my A1s and A7RV. For instance I’m less likely to use it for portraits unless I have the Viltrox 75/1.2 and use it in crop frame. Also not sure how comfortable a 70-200/2.8 GM II I use for events will be.
The dense sensor in a small package remains an extremely attractive hypothetical unfulfilled niche. If the rumors are true I think the price point of under 3000 US is the sweet spot. Sony likes to put new tech in each camera and I could see the CR getting that treatment in a few surprise areas. But even if it doesn’t and it’s more of a one to one match for the 7rV, the sizing alone will be the killer app. I fully agree that this setup is the more compelling of the 2 sensors (vs the 33mpx acII), but to each their own and the a7cII will definitely have lots of use cases too.
Sony continues to impress by jamming as much or more tech into a small package as anyone.
I have to keep considering my options for lenses to build out a small kit that hits the right balance between flat field IQ potential and small package.

Indeed, I really doubt that it will move many units at the rumored price. For only ~10% (depending on retailer, sales, etc) more money you end up with a camera that's only really somewhat larger, but is substantially more full-featured and pro-oriented.
Of course, maybe that's wishful thinking on my part. If it's just a bit cheaper than rumored, I may finally upgrade my a7RIV.
I think the pricing is off as what is being reported. I said this early on the A7cII 33mpx unit at 1999. US and the 61mpx unit at 2999. US. To me that sounds more reasonable to the market
Remember the A7c the one today was 1798 on release
BTW watched that video from the SAR site and now he says only 1 slot for the 61mpx. This stuff has changed multiple time. Believe nothing until final voice announces it. My interest in it is fairly small although I could see my A7rV for the 61mpx A7c as an option. I mostly shoot all my runway gigs with the LCD so it's kinda workable. But let's see , don't want to give up my 2 Slots nor give up my Type A cards either. Bigger problem for me at least is the Vertical grip and I can't give that up for my hand arthritis . On these long shoots having my hand over the top doing verticals is killer painful after awhile
Sony has to compromise the A7Cr in some ways to fit the smaller size and a lower price. They wouldn't make an exact replica of the R5 in a mini version-and probably couldn't. The decision for me will be which compromises did they make? If I don't like what I see I'll look at a used R5.
Right, if they were even able to do the physics side of it, it would definitely cost more than the a7R V. Would there be a market for a smaller a7R V that was not trivially more expensive than the a7R V? I doubt it.
Just fitting all the electronics required to match the a7R V feature set would be hard, let alone the thermal management challenges of having all that in a smaller package.

I guess we again will see the "half shutter"-mechanism (my main gripe), a small and non-tiltable viewfinder (I don't like it but i can live with it), one card only (totally OK), no Hi-Res mode (can live without it) and the same grip with the same awkward shutter button placement (why?).
Then again, I like small cameras and dislike humps. I know, it doesn't make sense since I also like fast primes. The only thing that can hold me back from an 7CR is the Sony Europe price setting policy.
We'll see when it is announced (if it happens at all). After reading this thread I'll just wait.
I've been using the original A7S for the last 8 years, and I'm eyeing the A7CII as my next camera. Most aspects of the A7CII will be an upgrade for me, so I have little to complain about. I just hope it will be easy to get my hands on!
I am so excited about the A7cR because if the rumors are true, it's already a killer camera, especially if it takes out all the features that a hobbyist photographer doesn't need.
I can understand why people with A7R5/A1/A74 etc won't care too much, but as someone without a Sony camera, the A7cR seems extremely appealing!
Especially its 61MP sensor in crop mode I believe would be 26MP so I can even go light when needed, without needing to get 6700. Right now, I am thinking of 18-105 and 18-135. Does anyone else plan on using A7c2/A7R with a small E zoom?

FYI for the all price speculators: A7C is back up to $1798 (at the major outlets).
Interesting, I bought one from Amazon last week at 1500€ and it is at 1800€ now.
I am considering the option of returning it and getting one of the new ones... but looks like the price difference might be too big and the A7C could have been a good deal.

At the moment, I have a 10-20mm f4 EPZ, 15mm f1.4, 56mm f1.4 and the 70-350mm "begging" to be mounted on a A7CR!

I feel like with the A7cR launch (if true), we'll need a "Best of Small and Light AF lenses" list to go with it. Here's my list of native lens selection
Wide
16-35 F4 G
20 F1.8 G
24/40/50mm G
35mm F2.8 ZA
"Telephoto"
18-135
55-210 (this has questionable IQ)
Are there other lenses smaller and lighter than what I listed above?

Some options that I'd have on my list:
UWA:
Laowa 14/4
CV15
Sigma 17/4
Normal:
Sony 24/40/50mm G
Sony 28-60
Samyang 45/1.8
Sigma 45/2.8
Tele:
Samyang 75/1.8
Sigma 90/2.8
Also the Techart LM-EA9 adapter opens up a lot of small options with Leica M lenses.

Great list.
Based on my list above covering native lenses, and yours including third-party lenses, this "Small and Light" category winner will belong to Sony for a LONG time, especially with the launch of A7c2/A7cR.
For an all-in-one zoom, the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 is a good option. While an all-in-one may not ever be considered "small and light", this one isn't bad.
