p.5 #6 · New Cosina Voigtländer 28/2.8 VM and LTM lens got announced!
The lens I didn't know I needed but now have to have.
Thinking the Type I for film and Type II for digital. A "why not both?" offering. I do think they should have offered a Type III that would be the Type II design but with brass and black paint.
I think this may finally be a worthy competitor to the 28 Summaron reissue but with the advantage of f/2.8 aperture.

The Summaron is considerably shorter at 18mm but only focus down to 1m and it's heavier than the Voigt's Type I.
...and two extra stops of light is a humongous advantage for the CV 28/2.8 Color-Skopar!

The Voigtlander Color-Skopar 35/2.5 P II was one of the smallest lenses I've used on my M cameras. I just realized that the new CV 28/2.8 Color-Skopar will be almost identical in size, sharing the same ~23mm in length and 39mm filter thread. Actually the 28mm will be even lighter at 106g vs 134g.
Here are some images showing the 35/2.5's next to other lenses and on my previous M10 body:
(as a bonus, it won't have that front silver bayonette)

I think the deal for most people w the Summaron is the rendering, not really the size. The TTA 28 5.6 is outwardly identical, but the optics/rendering are completely different.
CV has really hit it out of the park with their new 28 2.8. And again this shows that they know how to build physically attractive lenses, so the weirdo choices for the Ultron 28 v2 continue to mystify me! I own that Ultron, and it is awesome optically but pretty much the only reason I also have the Summicron v2 is the design.

Technically, I consider the TTA's 28/5.6 lens to be superior to the Summaron. However, personally, I am more drawn to the timeless aesthetic of the Leica lens. Images from that lens have a classic look that appeals to me, making it an excellent choice for street photography.
I'm intrigued, do you happen to own the CV 28/2 Ultron (type II black paint)? What aspects of it do you find dissatisfying? I believe it to be a gem, especially when compared to the significantly larger Leica 28/2 Cron. IMO, both lenses offer great tactile qualities but I have noticed numerous negative comments surrounding the Voigtlander lens. The Leica's aperture ring is more clicky but the Voit's focusing ring is super smooth and the tab feels great to me.

I have the type II black paint and chrome. It has the focus stick not the claw. The upside where I find it haptically superior is it also has a focus ring as well as the stick. The version w the claw thingy has a smooth barrel.
Focus is super smooth. Perfect. But why with the aperture ring ears? Why not have a normal aperture ring where it is the same shape and ribbed all the way around? Like a Summicron...
Compared to my Summicron Asph v2 the only beef I have with the Ultron is it is ugly! And I just don't get it. CV goes on this weird design bender occasionally where they could make lenses physically attractive - see 35 1.2 viii, 50 1.2, the new 28 2.8 - but do the 28 Ultron and 35 Ultron thing instead.
Does it matter? Up to you.
Pic of my lens showing focus stick AND focus ring! p.s the Haoge CV knock off hood balances the lens' looks IMO. As well as works great.

Is the CV 50/2.5 Color-Skopar brass?
Yessuh! A weighty lil nugget! It is an LTM lens, but no biggie of course. Just use it w the LTM -M adapter.
The design/build/feel is remarkably similar to the "Made in Germany" Rollei 40mm 2.8 Sonnar. Hmm.

I prefer the Type II barrel design compared to the initially sold Type I which is anodized black with chrome accents on aluminum barrel. The Type II is black paint brass. It will show patina over time. Honestly I have complaints.

Yeah that's the one I have. I think it looks good, focus is smooth and easy. It's larger than this new 28/2.8, but it's still a pretty tiny lens for a high quality 28/2. I really have no complaints about it either — I guess if I had to choose I don't love the [expensive] matching hood but it's not a dealbreaker.

Your's has a normal aperture ring. So one version has the better focus system, the other has the better aperture system. Would it be too hard to combine those two features onto one 28 f2 lens Cosina?

Yes, I was thinking exactly about all this: same size as the 35/2.5 and 25% lighter, black front ring.
Although I am still looking forward to reading about the optical qualities of the lens, I feel it is almost unlikely that I do not end up getting one...

I have both hoods. (LH-12 and LH-4N) and they work in other lenses as well.
The LH-12 is super cool but but it blocks the framelines more. However, it seems to blocks light entering the lens at oblique angles more effectively.

That's smaller than I thought it would be. Nice. Did I read correctly that Voigtlander claims that this matches the IQ of the Ultron II at the same apertures?
