Here is Hugh's love letter to the Z8 and the Nikon system

Hard to argue with anything he said. He keeps preference and objective advantages for each system mentioned or compared well separated.
The Z8 is not about innovation, it is about an excellent set of features combined into a package that results in an incredibly good camera for almost any use. Nikon has also developed an extremely compelling line of native Z glass, that really has only one competitor in the market. Up until the Z9/8 cameras this was not matched in a system that could properly leverage this glass. It now is. Hugh Brownstone made this development very clear in his presentation.
There are only two systems that can now compete at the top level as a system. Of those two, Nikon has a huge, and disruptive price advantage.
This was a very well done discussion that focused not so much on the specs, but the use cases, advantages, and value that Nikon has brought to the table.

I don't ...hold that thought... disagree with his points or conclusion at all; hence, I shared it. Actually, that is how a review should be - put things in context - instead of reading of tech specs.

Maybe not such a big price advantage of you include the Z 600tc at $15k....
Considering both Sony and Canons 600 F4 without the TC is 13k .. what’s your point . You know when those two do deliver the built in TC it will be in the same ballpark.

Got the Z8 today (for my father). Set it all up and was shooting with it a bit this afternoon - what a fantastic camera. Anyone with one on the way is going to be absolutely thrilled. I think the size/weight is just about perfect.
The only surprise was that the battery arrived 100% dead - did anyone else's? Usually they are charged 40-60%. I have never seen that before, and it's very bad for batteries to sit dead for a long time, so hopefully it hasn't been. Still shows perfect health when charged so I think it's going to be OK though.
Also, Z9 rear screen and top display protectors fit the Z8, so if you bought a multi-pack for your Z9 and still have some sitting around, you can use those.

Yep, the one I shot for a few days this past week delivered a wonderful shooting experience.

I've read that the battery was 100% dead from a number of people now. Must be a new shipping requirement/policy??

Mine also came with a completely drained battery as well. Kind of strange, I put the battery on my Manfrotto dual charger and the charger did not even register the battery in the slot. Not sure why as the charger works with my other EN-EL15c batteries just fine. Now I am charging it in Nikon MH-25a. My local dealer did put top/rear display protector on my Z9 at the store. Not sure if that came with the camera or if they just have those available as a perk.

Interesting point, Geoff. As we know, lithium batteries have been known to cause fire.
I didn't notice what state of charge my Z8 battery was in as I had two spares from my Z7II which I had previously fully charged up ready for the Z8. So, I used those for my first outing of 250 shots and the battery only drained 1 bar. I put the Z8 battery in the charger as soon as I got home and didn't look at the state of charge.

My battery was completely dead.

You guys seem to be misinterpreting battery care technology. Manufacturing a LiIon battery, and leaving it uncharged is better the even a slight charge and having it sit. This way you get a brand spanking new battery with no wear and tear upon receipt. Charge it up and you're ready to have the best life span for it.

But still trying to convince my friend to choose the Z8/400/4.5 over the R5/100-500 and now should be able to get her the Z8 without too much delay if she decides to go the Nikon route.

Wait! Lance, didn't you start a thread explaining that you're going to wait on a Z8 until prices come down?
