I’ve read that too.
But if Nikon can get the AF right on the Z8/9, they can get it right on a Z90 top. 😊
If they could get it right it would be right by now - the competition has already released cameras that have incorporated additional neural engine hardware - you better hope Nikon are testing their new neural engine in the Z90 .

The excellent autofocus of the Z9 (and Z8) relies on integrated EXPEED7 and stacked sensor, which has the 'neural engine hardware' to support Nikon's deep learning software.

There is no AI in cameras (Yet) AI requires input for the camera to learn , unless the camera is connected to the web and constantly sharing data with the manufacturer there really is no AI , it's just marketing BS. Can you add additional procs to help execute algorithms faster, sure .. but that's not AI.

Let's be clear here, I don't have 600mm lens, I owe 400f4.5, and I will buy tc14 at some point, to extend it to 560mm.
I just use 600mm as an example how more MP's with better crop-ability compares somehow to longer focal length.
The same math can be applied to any focal length.
Otherwise, I agree with you, framing with FF is much easier, lesson learned since I purchased Z7II, I rarely switch to DX mode.
I rather crop in post processing, plus, FF gives me more flexibility for closer objects, as I'm using a prime.
Z90 is still up in the air, Z8 is real, so I'll see where I'm going with this....Show more →
I just switched to the 400 4.5 with tc to replace my Sigma S. If you're interested I have a new in box 1.4 that I received from Nikon that I'm sending back. They sent me two of them by mistake.

The marketing language is just that.
The algorithms are trained and refined via AI and of course a camera gets a version of that algorithm when it launches, and perhaps a further trained one later on via FW.

AI algorithms have been used in cameras for a long time. They are taught before the camera goes for sale; the camera doesn't learn when the camera is being used normally by the user but it has been taught by the manufacturer in the design and testing process.
The matrix meter in the F5 (in the 1990s) was taught using a set of 30000 images. Face and eye detection in AF likely is also AI-based.

Yup agreed , but the manufacturers are marketing this stuff as the camera itself has some sort of AI , it doesn't ... it's not learning anything yet.

I was able to walk into my local shop and buy one last week , think the whole country got a shipment of them in .

Thanks for an opportunity, but I'll get here from my local shop.

The Z8 thread in the Sony sub-forum generated more responses that this thread here & some of the acid tripping there is pretty entertaining to read. Nikon has really struck a nerve, so they must be doing something right.

In the past 4 years I've shot Sony A, Nikon Z, Canon R and Fuji X-Trans. And I won't begin to tell you what I've shot in 49 yrs of my photography.
There's benefits and cons to each. These new stacked sensor cameras (and mechanical free shutter) are going to be leading the charge and this long awaited Nikon Z8 deserves all the attention it's getting.

You'll probably agree then that some of the comments from fanatical Sony fanboys (that either haven't handled anything other than their precious A1 or just read about Nikon on 'the internet') can be a head scratcher.

Totally. I'm not a Brand Boy Fan Boy...I could care less.

One of my favorite guys on YT, Omar Gonzalez, he's got Z8..
I thought he only shot Fuji, but in the video saw he also owned the D700. Cool! He seemed to like the Z8. Would've liked a longer video, but it wasn't bad.

A Z90 a la Fiju X-2Hs for about €2500 would be an instant buy for me. Although the Z8 ticks all my boxes (except perhaps a little bit high on weight) I can’t affort €4600 for a camera.
July is just fine. 🤣
I'd also love a z90 (z80?), but who knows if/when it'll be released. I do wonder though, how large it would be. Would it be close to the same size as the Z8 or closer in size to the XH2S? I could trade/sell off some gear and get the z8, but I'm a little unsure about the size. I really like the size of my Z6 (I also tried the XH2S and have the OM1-both similar in size to Z6) and not sure if I'd like the z8. I did have a d500/d750, which were fine, but the Z8 is closer to the d810/850...

He has shot most of the Z full frames I believe. He actually has an account here, probably a good choice for his sanity that he doesn’t use it much
