Is this still accurate?? "The Sony is going back. "
If it did... why are you still, posting about the R5??
The "Hide" button is your friend. It is the best response to trolling and other forms of dysfunction. I reported him back in the first thread he ruined by trolling, but he is still here.
Since fw1.31 keepers has dropped and often loses it
I'm coming around to that same conclusion. I'm just not getting the magic hit rate from the A1 anymore. Even in perfect light. I'd love to be able to do a back to back comparison with a camera on 1.2 and see if I could confirm my feelings. But I do see a number of others seeing this so maybe it is true.

Well it was 6 months between jobs that are identical situation with my A1 and my A7RV and I know I updated the A1 and not because I just bought the A7RV but I felt my images where better with the A7RV. Same lens to the 70-200 but I did not bring this up because you know how it goes. People get weird but my images feel sharper . So maybe the A1 latest firmware is an issue. The A7RV was terrific and I initial thought its the new AF. Maybe it was bad firmware on the A1. Kinda why I sold it in a way. Nothing definitive in this comment but im really good at feel and it just felt this way.
1.2 to 1.30 was a visible improvement to human eyeAF for me... but then I got the impression it actually deteriorated a bit with 1.31. Hard to prove it though
I agree either way- but the way I read it was that firmware could eliminate the need to select between bird and animal or offer bird, animal, and bird/animal. That would be cool! TGPhotography wrote:
Now that I am quoted I realized my error
I meant animal/bird eye af in video. Obviously it already is implemented for A1 stills. Still not holding my breath.

As far as I know so far that was implemented only for the RV, so not portable to the A1. Given that it reduces the reliability (if slightly) and that I really know whether I take photos of birds or not, I don't I think I'd use it.
It’s really unfortunate, even with the 200-600 the A1 with fw1.20 just worked for me and I could rely on it . Fw1.30 was slightly worse , for static fw1.31 seemed very sharp but with BIF majority of shots to me look off , not huge but lacks that crispness nailed look . It’s frustrating because the hardware is capable, seems they going backwards for some reason with fw’s. I hope Sony sort this , I will not be buying anymore of their products until it’s improved. I was hoping to buy the 600mm f4 GM but will hold off for now

Reliable focus for BIF would be nice , I still feel the consistency has dropped since fw1.31 , wish I’d kept mine at fw1.20
I noticed your Red Kite shot was with the 200-600. Have you updated that lens to version 2 firmware? I don't have any opinion myself about whether it is actually better than version 1 although I can say that it seems very good on my A1. There are people out there though (https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4681146) who do claim that it improved AF so it might be worth a try if you haven't done it already.

Red Kite was shot with fw1.20 for A1 old FW for 200-600
