Hah!
I think I need to amend my previous statement thinking we'd see the US price "any minute now" to "any week now"
I'm going to wait for your tests to see how it compares to the 75 1.5. If it renders like that lens does at f/2, I'm definitely interested since it's more compact and appears less awkward both in looks and ergonomics.

I was considering comparing the lens to the Leica 75/1.4 lux, but maybe the CV 75/1.5 Nokton would be a better option. I just learned that both finishes are actually painted on brass, according to Cameraquest! How cool is that?

Very keen to see some reviews on this. I've been eyeing the 1.5 for some time now but agree with what others have said about it being somewhat awkward looking. This seems much improved in that regard

I like the 75/1.5 pretty much but at least my copy has a thing about focus ring creep, i.e. focus extends by itself while I walk with the lens on camera. Too little focus resistance. Anyhow, the IQ is very good so I don't want to sell the lens to replace it with 75/1.9 currently. The 0.5m MFD on the 75/1.9 appeals to me though.
I checked the trade-in prices of 75/1.5 at Map Camera and surprisingly the black version trade-in price is only 46K yen but the silver version is 66K (both cost the same as new). When trading-in to buy something else you can get 13% more value on top of that with a 10% trade-in bonus + 3% coupon. Not good enough the black version...

Hi Juha,
I think it might be a good idea to wait a bit and see how the new lens stacks up against the others before making a decision. That way, we can have a better understanding of its performance and make an informed choice. What do you think?

Changed my mind and pre-ordered. I need a 75. The 0.5m MFD and matte black on brass sealed the deal. Also went with the MC so that the look of the lens would have the best chance of matching the 75 1.5.

Yes, please compare against the CV 75 1.5!
And yeah, I'm really impressed they did matte black on brass. Is that a first for them? I would not have been interested in the matte black had it been the lighter aluminum construction.

I'm always tempted with the new CV VM releases (in the absence of E-mount releases) but I know this one wouldn't really fill any particular need for me as I'm well covered at this FL and any trades wouldn't make sense now. I'll still read the reviews with interest but I think I won't make any moves on this one. There's also CP+ around the corner and I.C.S. used lens fair just before it so there could be other exciting new lens shopping opportunities just around the corner

Everything about it looks great to me so far. I do wonder if this is going to have a more "classic" performance at wide apertures, something closer to the Heliar 75/1.8's undercorrected SA and lower resolution draw than the modern performance of the Nokton, but with the Nokton's low distortion and flat field.

Okay, wonder if/hope for... same same.
My hope is that by not using ASPH glass for the rear element like the 75 1.5, this lens will give us a small amount of glow wide open in high contrast light. I don't see any glow in the samples thus far, but they look like they were all taken in overcast light or in the shade.
Just for fun, I think I will call this lens the CV 75 "post-ASPH"

Should we dip into the FM slush fund, see if we can get Juha to grab a copy and do his usual walkabout lens tests (since it might be a while before we see the lens stateside)?

I noticed that Map Camera already ran out of stock of the SC version but they still have MC in stock I've still managed to control my urges of getting one until now. I've been also very busy with work so that has helped too.

I have a feeling this one will be modern and compare to the Leica 75/2 APO, except that perhaps it won't be as well corrected.

I could live with that if it doesn't have the Cron's FC. Still, if that were the goal, wouldn't this be an APO-Lanthar and priced similarly to the 35 and 50?

I was thinking about the image quality and was hoping for high resolution and improved contrast for a more visually appealing and modern look. And if they took care of chromatic aberrations, it would probably be referred to as APO-Lanthar but I think it would be larger and way more expensive.

Based on the design (a sonnar derivative with 3 APD elements and no aspherical elements), I suspect that they are after rendering and bokeh leaving some spherical aberrations uncorrected but good correction of CA including axial CA. I would be happy to be right. I don't expect a completely modern look, but I don't expect it to be soft at all either. Neither do I expect it to be as sharp and contrasty as the 75 f/1.5. Think of the Pentax 77 f/1.8, but with much better CA correction. That is what I am expecting and hoping this lens will be.

To me, looking at draws, it looks like more a original "Ultron" derivative design, an asymetrical evolution of "planar", for the positive and negative elements arrangment out the aperture.
Usually is the positive and negative elements arrangment, that is formerly used to define Duble Gauss derivative and Sonnar/Ernostar derivatives.
Than if it end on a rendering with low CA with some spherical aberration and COMA wide open, it could be a nice rendering portrait lenses, especially if focal plane is kept relatively straight. The S.C. version for less contrast can be a suggestion for this thesis.
