One thing I can say is that the difference in grip between the RIII and the bodies after that is minor but significant. I haven't felt a need for the grip on the A7IV whereas I did need one on the RIII I had before that.

When is supposed that this camera will be available for purchase? I was told that at least for Europe first units are expected by the end of November or beginning of December, but none of the local dealers I asked could provide a more accurate date.
Additionally, anybody knows if current LCD screen protectors for A7R IV are compatible with the A7R V?

Well, I guess I'll wait and see what the final verdict is from my pinky finger in a month.

Price point aside, unless A7RM5 has much cleaner low light, base ISO (100 it is!) files and compresses noise, I may only see auto-focus, day light action/portraiture shooters to benefit from advances of v5.
Personally, I shoot land/city scapes, mostly on tripod using manual lenses, and I feel A7RM2 (last camera to support Sony Smooth Reflections) and A7RM3 are the best landscaping photography cameras, even at 42mp.
For everything else in Sony realm, there is the superb A1 Swiss Army Knife.

Yeah, it really depends on what you value in a camera.
For example, nearly nobody here mentions the operational improvements in the current generation, as people simply get used to what they use on a daily basis.
For me, AI AF, the new screen mechanism and improved IBIS alone are reasons to consider the V, but I'd like to hear some real life reports from actual users...

I really want to see how the electronic mode functions does it black out , do you get variable shutter, anti- flicker and features that most folks will never use but I do. I shoot in LED light and last thing I want is shooting 40k images in mechanical mode. Why I have the A1 as it works in these environments. Until I get those answers ill just shoot the Swiss army knife in the A1

Agree ... after watching more reviews, the new IBIS and AI AF seem to work quite well.
And the multi-angle screen + EVF is a nice upgrade too for me.
The sensor readout speed is a disappointment (but expected)
Now I need to see the noise/ DR from the raw files. Should be similar as the A7RIV but maybe they have found a way to improve it somehow. The A7RIII sensor is so good at that.
It's going to be a difficult choice if the A1 goes on sale during the holidays, prices in Australia have started to drop.

I've owned the A7RIV since it was released. Sony really needs to improve the weather sealing, especially in/around the hot shoe. As a landscape photographer I've had multiple issues with moisture entering there and setting off error codes to the point where the camera is barely usable. Very disappointing having moved from Canon DSLR's to Sony mirrorless and I don't see an improvement in regards to that with the A7RV. Hopefully those issues are resolved in the A7RVI otherwise I'll be looking for something else which is a bummer because I love the image quality and the glass available for the Sony system.

Tim, the hot shoe of the old days to just trigger flash is long gone. We know have a portal for multi functioning features. If you don’t mount anything on that, like you would do for landscape, for example, then it is recommended to put the cover on all the time. Some folks go even further by putting some gaffer tape on the top of the cover to further minimize potential issues..

Have we confirmed what the sensor readout speed is?

Since people asked about the release:
Don’t know if you guys have seen this, but we are getting our A7RV cameras in Germany now. Some picked theirs up today. Shipping starts tomorrow. I’m living very rural so I expect mine to arrive monday or tuesday. But lots of people in germany will have their cameras in the next two days.

That's good to know, we're still almost 4 weeks out in the US. Will be nice to hear from people with camera in hand.

That is very good news. Yesterday I pre-orderded one at my local store and they told me they will receive them by the end of November but that there was some chance to receive them sooner.
I am waiting for the A7R V like rain on the desert! Can't wait to put my hands on it!
