Yeah, the sensor readout is pretty horrendous. I imagine it's hard for these traditional camera companies to adapt to the new landscape where silicon performance matters so much. Companies like Hasselblad and Leica don't even really have the bandwidth or finances to build out engineering teams that specialize in those sectors. Personnel cost is through the roof.

She also mentioned the AF was bad, and in low light often could not focus.

p.5 #2 · Hasselblad X2D

I am one of the enthusiasts who purchased the very first and expensive X1D 4116 kit, then a standard back up X1D silver body, I then experienced the scroll wheel and door issues and every other glitch these first bodies were known for, but, I was simply staggered by the image quality so I persevered.
I then purchased numerous copies of the X1D2 and every XCD lens and as I compared these bodies and lenses to Leica the SL, then SL2 with the finest Leica lenses such as the 75 1.25 Noctilux, then just recently the new Nikon Z9 arrived and I combined it what could be the finest optics I have ever shot with, the Z 58mm .95 Noct lens. I came to the realization that when I wanted the finest overall image quality and the most accurate color science then I shot with the X series Hasselblad cameras and lenses but I will admit e Z9 and 58 .95 Noct came very close from a clarity and bokeh perspective but not color science as Hasselblad shines here.
I do not know who this young tester is but I suspect from her comments as she mentioned Nikon Z9 focus speeds that she is comparing cameras that are meant to be used for different purposes and environments. If ultimate speed combined with 'very' good image quality is your need then the Nikon Z9 is a stunning camera, yet if the ultimate in image quality as measured in detail, acuity and resolution combined with possibly the best sorted color science, then I suspect this new X2D is "the" camera to buy and enjoy.
No one camera does it all yet I felt from the tester she was trying to find that camera. I love my Leica M10 Monochrom for its unparalleled low light - high ISO capabilities, but even it cannot hold a candle to the files produced by my X1D2 body let alone what I am guessing will come from the new and much improved X2D body. One more thing, Leica had better be really upping its game with the SL2 replacement.......

Well she is someone that Hasselblad obviously trusted/respected enough to get her a camera for a first look review.

She didn't just complain about focus speeds, she mentioned it hunted a lot in normal light, and often could not focus in dim light.
Not being able to focus is a lot different than being in a speed race with a Z9!

I'll let you know Monday/Tuesday. Looks like my X2D and 38+55 arrive Monday or Tuesday now. The 90 popped up locally and that's due on the 23rd. Then again so was the camera.

I have zero interest in Z9/A1 level focusing. But I will be looking at how the old lenses go compared to the X1DII and the new lenses against the GFX100S. For me, that's what counts. I have no doubt the IQ will be stellar.

I might even pull out all the toys and have an X2D, X1D, X1DII, 907x, GFX100S, 645Z and S007 smackdown. hahahahaha.

Apart from the simple error regarding the GFX sensor having more resolution, I though she seemed pretty measured and knowledgeable about the X2D competitors. I disagree with the video thing and as a GFX100S owner I know that the AF will not get close to even the XT4 or A7R4 level. Also seems like some others haven't had AF issues. Maybe they have different expectations or needs. We'll see next week.

Yep. Senior video producer and expert for photography & video gear reviews for one of the biggest tech sites (likely more reach than dpreview has, didn’t check). „Young Tester“ is mildly disrespectful

Weird video. She tries to give an impression that she really really likes the camera but then with a few casual remarks completely trashes it...

The way she describes the AF is basically the X1D AF: slow with good light and close to unusable in low light.

One would hope that the X2D improves upon that...

CUSTOM PROFILES!

And a distinct lack of information on focus bracketing which kind of sucks.. I assume that'll be coming soon in a FW update.

Karl Taylor (one of the few youtubers I trust)

Nice to see they incorporated a manual focus assist feature much like Canon's "Focus Guide". The guide is at the point of focus, and it displays a tick mark on the edge of a circle that moves around the circle's edge, either toward or away from the top center of the circle to show approach or departure from optimal focus. If it's like Canon's, it will only work with electronically-connected lenses.

Electronic diopter was really cool.

they should have just put lidar with the topography map since they are making it strictly stills. it would have been game changing for MF

Having used DJI's LiDAR focusing on the Ronin 4D 6K, I'd say just changing technologies wouldn't be more or less a game changer than more effectively working with the technology currently used.

true, i just think it would be cool to have like the top screen display the lidar map. but i guess issue is that it's range limited

When exactly did they shoot this promo video - everyone is wearing jackets and facemasks. Back in March?

At any rate, I think this unit looks spectacular. I would have to be sitting on a H6D-100 right now and have paid $32K for it...

I liked her attitude and energy in the review. Sure, she is not some causation boomer doing landscape photography for the last 40 years, but that doesn't mean her views aren't valid. Go Becca!

Sure, but you've got one of Sony's best full 645 sensors and a digital back you can use on a tech camera, if you're not already.

Come on, now. Surely they're tilting their EVFs up and down and mumbling, "Worth it," to no one in particular.
