I've been spending some time with a Bald Eagle the last few weeks and he's been pretty tolerant of me. He chills right off the salt marshes either on a sign or just in the grass/edge of the water. Most of these are from 50 feet to maybe as close as 20 feet. I stay about 50 feet back and if comes to me then so be it. I won't pressure him.

Excellent job on those swallows Dan! Hope to see more of this.
Thank you!
I went to a local dam yesterday hoping the eagles/osprey were active. They werent, but it didnt matter because 5 minutes after arriving I noticed all the swallows and martins were out and about And I have more fun trying to photograph them anyway

Good for you!
Let's see what you can do with the Z9 on butterflies.
No rush.
Thanks!

Afterthought: It's going to be awhile before they even show. In my butterfly garden I do not see Monarchs and Swallowtails until July.
There's a butterfly place near here. It's in indoor garden/butterfly. It's kind of cheating because there's an abundant butterflies around you but a good place to test that new macro lens. I meant to go to evaluate the 105S macro lens. Let's see the Z9 eye AF will pick up on the butterfly's eyes. I highly doubt it though.

I think it will depend on the size of the aviary; i.e. is it large enough to allow the butterflies to fly?
I agree. I also highly doubt it will pick up on a butterfly eye. Personally, that does not matter to me.
I want and hope the Z9 AF is quick enough and accurate enough to acquire and hold the body of the flying butterfly within the DOF.... if the photographer is able to keep it in the viewfinder.
I rarely am able to capture a flying Monarch in focus with my D850, and then at a distance. But some photographers are better (than I am) at capturing a swallow (as example) like Dan and a few others here.

Went out to try some macro shots with the 105mm S, and decided to take some of this Bumble Bee. Ended up using my BIF settings and it worked out pretty well.

Do you know the name of that flower the Hummer is feeding at? I have been working on setting up my butterfly garden.
Sorry, didn’t notice the question lol. I’m not sure to be honest, but there was tons of honeysuckle all around this and I know Trumpet Vine/Creepers grow in this thicket too
And I’ll work on the butterflies in flight this weekend as well. Thought about it a few times this past weekend as some flew by but was focused on birds lol
Edit: the flower was in fact a very early stage trumpet vine. Campsis radicans aka “cow-itch”
