Nice beaver images Bruce!
Thanks for the Z9 feedback too.
Thanks Robert...
Nothing but cold, wet, and overcast weather this spring. Photography has been pretty ugly, and my opportunities to shoot are pretty limited.
The beaver pond is unusually full of water, and they were pretty skittish. This was my first hike down to the pond (well first up and then down ), so I think they will get use to me as the season presses on. I will probably use Nikon's new "pre-release" shooting to try and catch a tail slap, as I often miss the peak by a slit second. With the camera pre-recording a second of data, I am pretty sure I will catch the shot I am looking to make. While I realize that the image will be a jpg, the in-viewfinder histogram will allow me to nail the exposure. Furthermore, a large full res jpg will still hold a ton of data.
While I have never been one to advocate for others to invest in a Nikon pro body, short of the release of a mini-Z9, I think that this camera will provide a lot of wildlife and sports photographers with the opportunity to make images that were previously improbable.

Some small birds with the Z9 + 500 f5.6 PF + 1.4x TCIII. This is where I need the 800 PF, but the 500 + 1.4x TCIII acquits itself very well!
Eastern Yellow Robin poked his head out from behind a tree and got the lovely afternoon sun.
Z9 + 500 f5.6 PF + 1.4x TCIII, 1/320s f/8.0 at 700.0mm iso220. Cropped about 15%

Juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk launch.
For those that haven't tried the F6 setting to "ON" I recommend it. I have been using it for a couple of months now and it is a great setting that helps when making various setting changes quickly. Just remember to tap the shutter when you have made the change to lock it in.

These are fantastic Lance... It looks like you got the perfect background for the Beautiful Fire Tail... It is such a stunning little bird.

I noticed a big beak through an opening in the foliage as I walked passed, during my lunch walk today. I propped myself against a tree to steady up as well as possible.
While it's nothing special, I was quite pleased with the results given the conditions & shutter speed.
