Congrats Mark! As a Z9 user the last few months (100% landscape so far but birding trips will be coming) I think most serious photographers who acquire a Z9 are going to be overall pretty happy with the cam. As a lover of a gripped D850, the Z9 is what I have been waiting for Nikon to release in the mirrorless line.

Cheers,
Ross

Thanks!

Yes indeed I have been very happy with it - I was fortunate to be able to spend so much time with it already, even before purchasing it. For my usage anyway, I found the A1 and R3 just had too many compromises or things that I couldn't overlook, but they are both still good cameras no doubt. Like you I am coming from a gripped D850 and the difference is quite something. I'm looking forward to what Nikon might add with firmware as well with all that power at their disposal.

ِAmazing

Does the 500PF+z9 work with ftz1, or I have to purchase ftz2

I did not have chance to try my 500PF with the z9 yet.

I have to travel quite a distance to find beautiful birds.

All what I have around me are camels

And unfortunately there is no cif ( camels in flight ) to test the AF

Thank you!
It's all a matter of perspective I would love to have camels around to photograph.

I believe the 500PF works fine with the FTZ1, but I use the FTZ2 since this was my first mirrorless and I didnt already have an adapter. The only difference, from what I have read at least, is supposed to the be "hump" on the bottom of the FTZ1 is no longer there. Purely a geometrical difference since the area near the front function buttons can get cramped using the FTZ1 with the Z9.

Both FTZ adapters are functionally identical. The only reason the "II" version exists is because the collar on the original "I" version interferes with the vertical grip when used on a Z9 (blocks your fingers when holding the camera in portrait orientation).

The fact that the Z9 starts reusing image names after 9,999 is moronic and archaic. If its a technical limitation, as I've read elsewhere... the camera should automatically change the DSC to ASC or anything else in order to mitigate the issue.

searching for images via their name is awful when you have 2/3/4 etc of the same name being used for images. Rant over.

Side note, I took 7,000 images in 10 months with a Z5... and took 10,000 images with my Z9 in 30 days 😬 .

Although no longer a Nikon shooter, I will still be following the 800PF release with great interest on 4th april.
If it is as good as the 500PF but 300mm longer, it will be a dream lens.

Only a dream lens if it's under 10k, which I'm starting to really doubt.

Yes, it seems like naming images is too complex a task for camera manufacturers. Is it too much to ask to have 6 digits? lol
My biggest peeve with the Z9 is the small "Ok" button. With gloves on, I can't hit that button.
Although, I should add, that's pet peeve of mine for most selectors of that design, no matter the model or manufacturer.

Have you tried gloves designed for photography that allow you to pop your index finger and/or thumb out easily? That's helped me avoid similar frustrations.

I literally have a dozen pair of gloves, including ones with where you can pop out the finger tip. I have used them, but in cold weather the ones I have aren't warm enough. What brand do you have?

For what it's worth, after having tried many of the supposedly best glove brands, I have standardized on Hestra from Norway.

To me they are the best.

They have Gore Infinium warm gloves with the end poping out and I use them with thinner liners, also Gore Infinium so that skin is never exposed.

Where do you get them?
Which model? There's a billion gloves on their site.

Oh ok, fair enough!

I use Vallerret Markhof gloves: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1632303-REG/vallerret_22mhv3_bk_l_markhof_v3_black.html

They make a warmer version too if you need something for sub zero temps, but these are pretty good - goat leather exterior, lined with merino wool and 3M Thinsulate. Great for 0C-10C and/or windy days. They are marketed as "mid winter" gloves.

These are warmer yet - they keep the merino wool but swap 3M Thinsulate for permaloft and are marketed as "deep winter" gloves:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1632310-REG/vallerret_22tdn_bk_l_tinden_black.html

And if you need something even warmer, they even have full on mittens that you can wear over top of the above mentioned gloves and still allow you to pop your fingers out:

Well finally after 3 months I finally got my Z9. Drove 2 hrs to pick it up and about $70 in gas...lol
Rained all day so no chance for photos.
Time to spend some time setting it up and listen to the rain

The Z9 was thrown into revenue service on day one when it arrived in the middle of January and it really performed admirably in the post season when state titles were on the line and those of us in the media need reliable gear and excuses just don't get it.

Sports writers require action of star athletes, images specific to content and occasionally a coach.
