One of my Nephews has taken an interest in photography so I have been giving him lessons. His parents bought him aa Sony A7IV as a first camera. Yesterday afternoon the lesson was sports/action/wildlife shooting a long lens. I took him out with the Sony 200-600 G to give it a try. Hew was shooting the sea birds, and sea lions, including BIF. He did great. I took my A1 mounted with the 70-200 2.8 GM and the 1.4 TC just in case anything interesting happened that I wanted to shoot. Nothing special with the wildlife so I took no images of them.
However, I did take just two short bursts of images hand held of people as they walked by. They just had looks that interested me. They were a bit of distance away when I shot them as you can see from the EXIF data. Still, they both noticed that big lens pointed at them and responded. Thankfully in a good way. As you can see from these two images even at a distance, wide open, and with the TC mounted the 70-200 GM II producing amazing image quality on all levels. Great detail, colors, and rendering.
I really love this lens, and am never disappointed in either the shooting experience, or image quality I get with it.
Enjoy!
-Steve-

Joshua, that's a beautiful shot! Seems this lens has that magical rendering I often see with the bigger primes? Very nice

This is a similar image to that I posted on the big FE thread but not the same; the head position of the leopard is different between the two.

I just put a Roland Pro brand cover on my 70-200 II.
It's a super tight fit. I haven't used it enough to provide any feedback on durability. I have Lens Coat brand covers on all my other lenses. They tend to fray on the edgs with extended use, but I like the protection they provede.

Thank you very much, Nelson! That lens is a superb performer and it takes TC, both the 1.4X and 2X well. In my opinion, it is on par or at least, almost on par in that respect to the GM 400 and GM 600mm lenses.

Can you still access the aperture ring with the Rolanpro the coat seems to cover entirely the lens, in the pictures.

Agreed Joshua... Amazing that a Zoom can deliver this level of quality. Take care

That's my only gripe with the RolanPro cover... The aperture ring is covered and difficult to get at. Not very good if you use that feature often. Another thing I dont care for is the fitment between moving parts is so snug, that the piece covering the zoom ring constantly rubs the opposite piece on the lens, and gives the zoom a rough feeling from time to time. Yes it fits snug, covers everything well and looks great on the lens, but actual functionality needed more testing. For this reason alone I don't think I'd buy another by this brand. I'd go lenscoat even though it doesn't fit as snuggly -at least I'd have access to aperture ring and smooth use of the zoom. Just my opinion as an owner of the RolanPro for the 70200GM mkii

Regardless of brand, just use the sections of the cover that you want to use. If it interferes with functionality, don't use the cover on that part of the lens.
