My question would be about effectiveness of A7RV 8-stop IBIS at longer end - what to expect? Would it be comparable with 135GM results?
Through the viewfinder, at 135mm to 150mm, IBIS completely freezes the image on the A7R5, just as it does on the GM 135. With the sharp results I am getting at relatively slow shutter speeds, such seems translate to the actual files.

And what kind of SS do you reliably get with 135GM on A7RV?
I never tried to collect statistics but I would call it good enough for my use at close and average distances. No doubt, dedicated OSS on 70-200 would be more effective.

Ok, in the same vein I can say I don't see any difference between 135GM and the Tamron IBIS-wise, on A1 though .

That's great. I won't be buying A1 but might get A1 II if it mates speed of A1 sensor with new features of A7R5.
I have not used latest zooms with OSS but I was very much impressed by the OSS quality of my EF 70-200 f2.8 II IS - it felt a lot better back then compared to what I'm getting from Sony IBIS today. It felt like the lens claw held the subject - am I wrong here?

I think you're right, IBIS starts to lose its effectiveness past 100mm...

Just for fun, I just tried some slow-shutter shots at 150mm, shooting a detailed chart at 20 feet on the A7R5. At 1/4 sec about 25% of my shots were critically sharp(!). At 1/8 sec about 50%. At 1/16 sec about 80%, etc. I’m amazed!! My A1 is packed for a trip, but from what I remember, it is nowhere near that good. A a note, I was sitting-down with my arms braced against my chest.

I tried that once j4nu asked and, standing, I was getting consistently sharp images from the other side of the room at 1/15 with 135GM. Less so at 1/10. I don't have steady hands due to all the wine drinking but also it is not that I've been hiking all day or just climbed a hill.

Your results are great.
I've just tried the Tamron@150mm (A1, sitting, elbows on my knees so a lot more stable than typical handheld shooting I'd say) and I think I get nearly every shot tack sharp at 1/30s, then at 1/15s it drops below 50% and at 1/10s I get one or two...

How A1's IBIS compares to A7R5? I see significant improvement in R5 vs R4.

On the A1 I can get fairly consistently sharp hand held shots down to 1/30 sec at 150mm if I am concentrating on my technique and to be honest I'm not sure of the real life usefulness of shooting at these shutter speeds unless you are only using totally static objets as people and landscapes with any foliage will probably show movement anyway

It is interesting to observe others doing photography. This girl is confidently handling a big Tamron lens in addition to some other gear in the backpack. What is a bit unexpected is the small camera she is using. This image is a 16.5 MP crop from the full 150 mm picture; some fine details are missing - thus, I cannot tell if the camera is an a7c or an APS-C

Got Tamy an hour ago but not impressed with its performance at 150mm too much so far. How do you see its performance at long end? My reference are Samy 135 and 135GM which are basically pinnacle at this FL and I don't have recent experience with other modern lenses in this range - maybe I was expecting too much? I definitely see a lot of improvement when jumping from 2.8 to 4 and especially 5.6.

Well I shoot mine a lot at 150mm on the A1 at f2.8 and it gives me excellent results with lovely bokeh for a zoom. For me there is nothing that can equal this lens for pure versatility and IQ with a range of 35-150mm. I wouldn't be without it as IMO it really is the ultimate event/documentary lens

This is an image thread after all, so maybe post some comparison pictures to the primes .
I don't think I compared the Tamron to 135GM but I might give it a try. I'd expect the GM to be better in the corners, but then it's a stopped-down prime vs zoom so what else would you expect...
