Tony is already on Canon’s “Naughty List”. Guess he’s trying to get on Sony’s too! 😀

Heck, Tony might as well leak some Z9 info and go for the trifecta! 😜

I wonder if the new dial style allows separate custom modes for video and stills?

They sped right through the skin tones. I wanted to know whether the A7IV got the colour science from the A1. All they said was that the skin tone out of camera on A7IV leans more towards magenta than green (which they say the A7iii leans towards).

Video autofocus tracking looked extremely underwhelming from their extremely quick test. Actual photo autofocus for portraits looked great.

In their opinion not really much difference between shots taken with A7iii and A7IV when they pixel peeped them even though A7IV has new sensor/more megapixels.

Honestly a bit bummed after seeing that review as I really wanted this as a hybrid solution to replace my A9.

After watching Northrups review.

Honestly, i don't know what i was expecting since everything was known already but still it feels underwhelming to me. The biggest improvment is much better AF for stills/video and a CF-A slot.

Image quality is pretty much on par with A7 III, stabilisation for stills seems to be worse than on A7 III which wasn't great to begin with, 10 fps seems poor vs Canon R6, i don't know i just don't feel it.

This to me feels more like A7 3 II than A7 IV.

I am obviously not in the market for this kind of body but I also find this very underwhelming. Seems like a nice competitor to a 5D mark IV DSLR or something, but looks to be behind both R6 and even Z6 II at least on paper.

The Northrups often get a lot of things wrong. I wouldn't rely on this video.

I'd have to disagree. At least as much improvement as the A72->3 update.

Significant UI updates. The changes to the exposure comp dial (locking and programmable) and the use of a separate switch for stills/video/S&Q is a big update.

Huge buffer updates plus faster cards across the board. Both SD cards are now UHS-II and the main slot is also CFE-A.

Full touch implementation finally and all the new menu updates.

The resolution difference is clear on the only subject they showed that actually had fine detail to show a difference, the eagle. (their architecture subjects all lacked in fine textures to show detail), colour is better on the IV

Essentially Sony fixed every single complaint about the III except the FPS, the IBIS, Smooth Reflections and maybe 4k60p crop (nothing in the video about that).

Note the IBIS difference is exactly what I'd expect from increasing the MP by 50% without significantly changing the IBIS system substantially. Higher MP is more demanding on stabilization.

The video was the usual low-quality Northrup content but there is useful info buried there.

This video was strange, it talked about a lot of new things without really talking about a lot of new things.

If you need speed (action/sports), this new A7 might be for you. Also Video should be improved. I will invest in lenses now and training

That's the Northrup specialty. Lots of noise, little real content.

This is exactly what I expected, based on the specs already leaked. I further expect that I won't be buying an a7riv, a1, or a7iv. My a7riii will continue to provide landscape images that please me. I don't need more bells and whistles, fast tracking or AF, and find the current menu system easy to navigate. Plus, I have begun to try the Fuji X system, and who knows what might happen.
But as always, YMMV.

the good news for me is that the a7c will be pretty fine with that custom dial and being able to set parameter on the Fn menu by touch, solving my biggest issues with the current model, they could skip the sensor if they want, and just bring the new CPU

Sony shot in his foot. So bad.

If in october 2021 they release a camera that is hardly competitive with let's say a R6, sure that a year after here the competitors will be miles ahead from Sony. 10 fps with such a nice AF system, come on Sony!

They should have taken a coup de force like when they released the A7 III.

Time to wait for the A7 V.

Down already, hah. Anything interesting beyond the specs we already know?

Not really. Just confirmed a couple of those last minute specs that SAR posted before this video like reprogramable EC dial, REC button location and one SD, one SD/CFeA (instead of dual SD/CFeA like A1/A7SIII).
Confirmed only 10FPS. Shutter sounded way quieter than A7III when they compared them for portraits back to back.
Has Bird Eye AF which Tony says worked great (which is ironic as he complained about how "poor" the A1 was).
AF much improved over A7III.

For some reason I can still watch the video on my phone as I haven't reloaded the YT app so I guess it is in memory somehow??

Cache. It will work if you don't refresh.

IBIS is worse than the one in A7 III and IQ is pretty much the same (better colors on IV thou).

Leaked review

Can I just say how bad this review is? It's like watching a long-running parody channel that somehow gets review equipment... It's just such an uninformative review it's laughable.

Overall I'm liking what I'm seeing with the camera. I'm enjoyed the comments about focus and hit-rate, but I'm still not sure how to feel about the overall judgement. The more I think about it the more I feel like a second hand A7RIV might make sense. The touch screen operation seems unmatched though!

Sell A7iii for $1100-1200 - $2500 for A7iv = $1300-1400 out of my pocket.

That's a bit too much for basically an articulating screen and minimal improvements.

$2500 is way too much for an entry-level cam.

I usually buy the next, newest successor/iteration/version. But, I think I'll pass this time around... Unless good, detailed side-by-side and pixel-peeped tests and comparisons by Gerald Undone or Max Yuryev or similar can convince me otherwise.

I wouldnt say they are minimal, there's a ton of refinement comparing the siii to a7iii

you're basically paying for quality of life. I'm hoping $2500 is the price WITH kit lens, and 1999 without...... making the 24-105 the kit lens......
