$2500 for an entry level camera and a $500 price increase over the previous model? Anyone else think both of these are huge mistakes? Let’s be honest, the biggest reason for the a7III success was its magic $1999 price point. I cannot think of another camera where the successor was $500 more expensive. Fuji and Hasselblad are actually making their updates better and LOWERING prices. Sony is sure getting greedy these days.

The A7c is now Sony's entry-level full-frame camera and it's not much cheaper than the current A7iii to begin with. So the price increase (if real) makes sense to me.
We'll see how many of these "confirmed" rumors actually come true, even down to the release date. Based on previous experience everything is likely to be wrong.

I'm wondering if Sony will raise the price over the a7III, but put it slightly lower like $2200 or $2300 to undercut the R6. They seem to be doing that with their lens releases so who knows.

Thats true, forgot about the a7C, but that 3 year old tech. Im not so sure about the rumors, if they are true, who's ever going to buy an a7S III again? Dont think Sony is that dumb. Id be fine with a new sensor, 4K 30p with no crop and better IBIS for a slight price increase. $500 is way too much.

This is where I am also, but also I'm thinking why not go for a lightly used A7rIV for around the same price? There are some minor differences, but for stills shooting primarily, I'm not seeing anything that would be better in the rumored specs. Unless you view the large files as a downside, but I greatly appreciated going from 24MP to 42MP when I got the A7rII. Perhaps I'd downgrade in this area is for a smaller body or stacked sensor. I'm hoping that Sony will surprise us with something that makes the A7IV more interesting than what we've seen so far.

I agree on the A7RIV. Additionally, if we're talking what you can get for $2,500, you could about pick up a used A9 and an A7R2 for that. Sure it's not going to have some of the modern improvements concerning ergonomics etc. which I definitely appreciate on my A7R4, but it'd also give you 2 bodies, one with 20fps and one with 42 MP.

You're going to be disappointed.
I don't give a rats ass what Canon or Nikon are doing, I shoot Sony, and they have consistently held features back from entry level and mid-range bodies. They tried to protect their cine cameras by not including professional video features in even their most expensive mirrorless hybrids until very recently. The A9s don't have any picture profiles, even in video, and the A9 bodies as well as the A7R cameras, the bitrates in 4K have have maxed out at 100Mbps which makes Slog3 virtually unusable. Panasonic, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, and Olympus have all offered better bitrates than Sony. They have all offered build in time-lapse functionality whereas at one point Sony wanted you to buy an app from the Play Memories store. There are video features in the GH5 that Sony haven't even included in the SIII that I use or the FX3 and A1. Sony could include them, but presumably they are keeping them for their real cine line.
The A7IV will be a good if not great camera and I don't doubt that it'll hold its own against some of the higher end bodies in many areas, but I also don't doubt for a minute that there will be some crippling limitations. 4K60 almost certainly won't be full sensor readout. That alone is a pain in the ass for people shooting paid assignments. Rolling shutter won't be anywhere near as good as the SIII, A9II, and A1. Bitrates won't be as high as the A1 and SIII. The EVF is rumoured to still be 3.29 million dots which is pathetic given the EVFs in the A7RIV , A1, and SIII.
It will take the position of being able to do most things that most people want, but it isn't going to shit all over the existing lineup. If you're expecting that you're an idiot.
Any sensor improvements would be welcome on A7iv, however Sony’s implementation of IBIS is IMHO pretty far behind the competition…I sure hope they make a quantum leap forward with this on A7iv.

The A9's magic comes from the stacked sensor. The A7IV won't have a stacked sensor.
The A7IV will be better than the A9 in some ways like having faster card slots, XR processor (eliminating all the operational lag that plagues the cameras with the old processor), BEAF, 33MPs.
It will be a downgrade by having a flip around A7SIII screen, rolling shutter, lack of live EVF feed, less AF calculations per second.
I'd probably still buy it over a used A9 because it would only be a once in a while backup to the A1. I just can't go back to the laggy processor more than anything. I kept trying to use my A9II after owning the A1 and kept thinking it was broken seeing how laggy everything was. I'm down to just a single camera which is rare for me.

What Sony needs to do is to somehow make a cheaper version of the A1 and a more highly specified version of the A7C. Either of those cameras would sell extremely well and would serve real purposes for photographers.
