The lowly D2H and 600mm f/4D. It's not always about Pixel Count.

I had to go back and look through all the pages here. I didn't realize I had posted so many times in this thread. My apologies for the duplicates

I wonder how long this Bonny&Clyde-era auto has been sitting on the side of this New Mexican hillside.

I don't think that it has been siting there for a terribly long time. Most of it looks like it has been chemically rusted with maybe the exception of the engine area. Also the colors, yellow and rust red, on the hill side look as though some sort of dissoluble pigment has been applied to it because those don't look like any natural colors to me.

My guess it might have taken in the northern part of the State, around Santa Fe or Taos area, where most of the artist live and hang out at.

It's pretty neat looking though, no matter what the intent!

Nicely captured!

Outstanding image!

I am guessing it is a DC Cormorant. I have never been able to shoot one in this situation you have here, passing by in ideal light. Good job!

Not sure of the ID. Probably Double-crested. The only way I was able to track it was because I got him taking off. If it was a flyby I would be hopeless Thanks !

Oh, I know it was taking off. No insult intended.

Up here where I am, it does not take much for them to feel cornered. I think they get shot at, but I do not know that. They just are so distrusting up here. When they feel cornered, they take off and sometimes they must go right by, because the lane is tight. The problem for me has been that I never have been able to get one in good light. Or I was not ready.

No insult taken This was on a smallish private pond owned by a friend about 5 miles from my house. The nice thing is I'm shooting facing east in the evening so the sun comes in right over my shoulders. Usually there will only be Canada geese, the random GBH, and a few Mallards. Two years ago there was a Great Egret that landed in the fall and stayed for about 3 weeks. Also a pair of Cormorants. I believe this one's mate was killed by a car. The GBH will not get within 75 yards of me no matter how long I sit in one spot. The Mallards always stay in the center of the pond. The Cormorants seemed indifferent. The Great Egret was the bird that really surprised me. As long as I didn't stand up or approach him, he would walk back and forth in front of me not fifteen feet away while fishing. Never seen anything like it in my area. Sadly, he didn't come back last summer. I'll dig up a few shots of that guy.

Interesting how they all vary. Reminds me of some GBH's in Florida hanging around the back doors of fish markets. I can now see in my mind, one of them grabbing a fish as it is tossed out to it.

There was a time when I thought wildlife behavior was purely geographic, and to some extent it probably is. But the more time I spend observing the more I'm convinced that animals all have distinct personalities and their behavior can be varied irregardless of location.
