American Goldfinches are granivores exclusively. They nest late in the summer because they must wait for the plants to go to seed.
She builds the nest and incubates the eggs. He's responsible for keeping her fed while she incubates and for feeding the nestlings while in the nest and for some time after they leave the nest.
Here, a father AGF is about to feed its begging fledgling. The fledglings are funny to watch as they compete for their father's limited capacity to get seeds. They constantly chase him around, knocking each other off branches (literally), competing to be the one in front him, wherever he goes (including at the seed sources).
Eventually, they catch on to what he is doing at his various seed sources; they mimic him, and of course then begin to feed themselves.
If you have a bunch of sunflowers and a clan (my word) of AGFs, you are in for a show. AGF's attack sunflower heads, ripping them apart to get at the seeds.
If you feed birds, it is your responsibility to thoroughly disinfect each feeder about every few weeks.
AGF's are clannish. If you see a lone AGF at the feeder, it is likely unable to keep up with the bunch. Put the binoculars on its face and you are likely to see that it has scabs over its eye(s) from *finch conjunctivitis".
As the scabbing grows, it is going blind and death is likely.

Kudos Robert for this thread. I will be glad to contribute.
The D300 and the D700 are the greatest crop / full frame body shooting pair ever imho. Batteries, grip, and controls were the same. Here are two of my favorite images shot with those cameras.

We have a thread for Nikon Z images and an individual thread for various Nikon DSLRs and various Nikon lenses. But we do not have a thread exclusively for any/all images captured only by Nikon DSLR's.

Thanks for the topic Robert !
I'm just a poor sap so hardly a world traveler, but me and my D500 have seen some stuff
Just a solid, no excuses, mean machine that doesn't get in your way and makes pictures. I'll literally cry if something happens to it

Great topic... DSLRs are definitely not dead if you are a Nikon Shooter.
While I'm committing to mirrorless for the near future, I still love the D500, have one, and am looking for another one to go with my beat up 300mm f/2.8D AFS II.
Anyway, here's a smattering of DSLR made pictures...

"DSLRs are definitely not dead if you are a Nikon Shooter."
Amen to that Bruce! It is pretty amazing that the the D500 was introduced over 5 years ago and still
produces outstanding images compared to all the newer bodies whether DSLR or mirrorless.
And some nice images you are posting folks. Keep'em coming.

I've been chastised here for having the nerve to suggest that I, personally, don't see any evidence that switching systems would benefit my photography. One genius deduced that my reluctance to switch was due to my inability to improve my photography with better gear and it was arrogant to claim that everyone share my personal limitations. Huh ?? I don't think I'm the only one out there who feels DSLR's are perfectly capable machines held back only by the limitations of our own creativity and imagination.
Anyways, just some fooling around in the backyard. I often retreat to my little corner of the world when I don't have time to drive anywhere but just want to kill an hour shooting something.
