Here is a shot at dusk that would have looked way worse with my f/2.8 zoom due to having to crank up the ISO. Situations like this is ultimately why I wanted the f/1.4 and felt the cost of the 35GM was worth it over just using the zoom. I passed over the 24GM when it came out based on Fred's sharpness comparison of the GM and Sigma 14-24, but now I'm thinking I may need the 24GM too. While my wife and I were shooting the Milky Way last weekend, I switched over to the 35GM from the 14-24 and I just started laughing. She asked what was so funny. I responded, I think this 35GM is going to make me spend more money - makes me want the other GM lenses. She didn't find it humorous.
Edit to add: the 35GM is also incredible in crop mode on the RIV.
Someone got a little carried away playing in the spray of the water hose

I also own a Sigma 14-24 DN.
Great lens in any way.
I also own a Sony 24 GM, and for sure I cannot survive (photographically) without it.
The best lens I own, together with the Sony 135.
Any picture comes to life with these two.
I also have a G 24-105 surviving on a shelf.
I got mine yesterday, and it's like I hoped: overall contrast and colors similar to the Batis lenses, as far as I can tell after 2 days. A far cry from the previous 35mm 1.4.
Sharpness is great at 1.4, as we all know thanks to the exhaustive testing by Fred & others.

Shot identically to see the OOF areas between these two lenses. Cropped in on the 50GM to try and match the closer focusing distance of the 35.
Thoughts? Have a preference?
Imho, it's hard to say anything because of compression artifacts (or that's what I think I'm seeing at least ...
