All the videos I have seen are pretty shallow and uninformative. Gerald Undone did a decent job as far as he went with video. Still a lot needs to be tested in video however.

I am looking forward to a good exploration of AF performance from reviewers who are experienced with Sony, and experts in sports/action/wildlife/bird photography.

I would also like to see a detailed walk through of the menu system, and configuration options.

I would like to see detailed looks into read/write speeds, buffers, and card options.

I understand that before we are able to see good image quality reviews the RAW processors

I have 2/3 of what you're looking for. The only missing thing is real time EVF tracking recording. Be patient. Lol

I am looking forward to seeing your results Alex. You are very qualified to make these assessments.

I believe you can convert the files to DNG format and you can go from there.

I don't think there is any program that can make a DNG yet. Sony program can output 16-bit TIFF and that is the best I could do. Adobe does often update DNG converter before they do ACR and LR.

The latest LR Classic Prerelease (Beta) that came a day or two ago doesn't open A1 files yet.

I recall reading a couple times now that the 120 AF Calc/S is only supported by Sony lenses with linear motors. Even though we know there are many lenses on the 30FPS list that don't have linear motors (like the 200-600). Does anyone know the source of that information about the 120AF/s and linear motors?

Probably doesn't matter as Mark Galer has shown the 200-600 can track some super fast dogs but I'm still curious who said the linear motor thing??

The Sony q&a with b&h said that only lenses with linear motors support 30fps. It wouldn't make sense for them to vary the actual calculation rate

Okay, and we already know that that isn't correct as Sony's own list has lots of lenses on it without linear motors. I will put that to rest then.

Why would af calculations be done at the lens level anyway? Wouldn't the actual af cycles be all on-sensor/chip and then transmit instructions to the lens that would hopefully have the ability to keep up?

I don't think anyone was implying the lens was doing calculations. It was more that lenses without linear motors can't keep up with 120 inputs per second and therefore didn't support that headline spec. Whether they would just adjust as fast as they could, ignoring some inputs or if the camera, knowing which lens is attached, would decrease the rate of data it sends to the lens is anyones guess. Or it could all just be misinformation...all I know is I've read it at least twice and couldn't find any source for it so that is why I asked.

Our friends the Northrups are working with Sony Engineers to make the a1 better? They claim to have discovered a serious issue.

Your link didn't work for me but here:

Super happy about that but..... I'll probably use crop a whole lot less now that we can get high shutter speeds in FF. For me at least cropping was a way to work around the terrible buffering on the RIV.

Why is TN so obsessed with the 30FPS number?
I mean "if you are going to spend $6500 then be prepared to upgrade all your lenses"
"We concentrated our review on AF and FPS"
....really?....I truly believe that out of all the headlining specs of the A1, 30FPS is probably at the bottom of just about everyone's list as to a spec that made them want to buy an A1. I actually do shoot a few things where 30FPS may come in handy, but even I've said for years when dreaming about A9R (A1) that I didn't care one bit if they went higher than 20FPS....heck if they had just pushed 50MPs at 15FPS I'd be okay with the A1.

But 30FPS was dead last on my list of things I care about on the A1. I care more about the camera startup time and the elimination of operational lag than I do about 30FPS

Still, if the camera has issues with 30FPS it is good to know about so I won't fault Tony for testing and providing results but he needs to realize no one is going to care in the end...and no one is going to sell their Tamron lenses to KEH because sometimes the A1 only hits 15FPS

I still like the magnified view that APS-C mode brings and very likely the Bird Eye-AF will activate easier/more often when in APS-C mode like it does on the R5. I even noted that in Alex's video that as he cropped in the eye-af grabbed his figure's eye where it didn't in FF. Also since I'm planning to just run V90 SD at first, the APS-C option will make that easier. Of course for my very first A1 test on the swallows in flight it will be FF all the way for the extra FOV.
