Was kind of hoping he would make a bigger stink about the EVF issue. We need more 'clout' behind efforts to get Sony to fix that. Otherwise, part 1 had some great images, and part 2 is an a1 love fest :-)

Well, it's the first time someone prominent mentioned it out loud, so I guess it's a good start .

Amazing already 76 pages so far.
Still no fix. Disappointing.

What does the number of pages have to do with "a fix"?

You are aware that the issue has been around for years on other bodies? It seems to be worse on the A1, but he's been living with and working around the issue for a long time. He also has previously publicly commented on the problem existing on both the A9 and the A7R4.

I can turn the question around :
are you aware the issue is worse on A1?

I never had it happen on A7III and that's my biggest gripe about it :/ .

The issue happened occasionally on my A9.
However, my neighbor experienced the issue regularly on her A9.
According to reports by some FM members it seems to be a worse problem on the A1, no?
Naively I would think Sony needs to fix/remediate/address the issue ASAP.
Not solving this problem seems to put them into an untenable position IMHO.

That’s because the A1 is so good. I did get a couple of things out of it … consider using balanced focus, instead of release and also use of a smaller focus area and ability of camera to track outside that focus area (that does not always work for me). I have had a number of discussions with him and ran into him at Conowingo in December. Mark is the real deal who uses his camera instead of just talking about it like it’s eye candy. He also runs a number of clinics and even outside of that he is very generous with his advice. He and I had a number of text messages back and forth about the EVF blackout issue and he mentioned about exercising caution when taping the eye sensor. Too much can prevent the sensor from shutting off and he thought that it could result in damage to the sensor.

I've had a similar issue on my a9 and a7RIV, yes. 'untreated' the a1 issue is crippling for me at times. Far worse than on the others and unacceptable to write off with a warning in the manual. On the prior cameras it would happen occasionally, oh well. On the a1 when it happens it happens a lot, and is stubborn and can be extremely frustrating. So yes. I'm aware.

Yup, I've done workshops with him in Florida, he's as genuine as it gets. We email a few times a year when I have something to ask him or advice. Great guy. His setup guide for the a1 will be interesting, and I have found myself using tracking more on the a1 than I had in the past. Not sure if its just working better for me than the a9 or if my usage is just evolving.

That's actually a very nice feedback from an actual pro user.
I wish I didn't know what the no 1 issue will be .
My take on it, though I'm just a lowly amateur:
I agre with issues about EVF and battery.
I haven't seen the backround focus AF issue, but there was one user here who reported it happening more often compared to A9.
I don't agree with noise, but maybe I haven't shot in dark enough environment to notice. I compared noise briefly to A7III around ISO6400 I think and it was slightly worse but nothing dealbreaking to me.
Now, the EVF issue - that is a dealbreaker...

Edit: hmm, I wasn't aware of the IBIS issue:

&t=204s
but luckily this one seems to avoid my A1.

If anyone cares, DXOmark score is out. 1 point behind the R4. Part that mattered most for me:
"The Sony A1 sensor has excellent maximum color depth and dynamic range at base, measured at 25.9 bits and 14.5 EV"

Quote:” the Sony A1 combines the best of the A9, A7R, and A7S series in one package.”

That pretty much sums it up for me.
